I don't get this Board. First of all they signed Kreider because there is no one currently in the pipeline that can replace him. If you had traded him and then tried to sign someone over the summer that can fill the void it would have cost you maybe not as much but something relatively close. But here is what I don't get. The whole argument on Kreider was the outer years more than the money but now all of a sudden because we signed him the next year or 2 is a problem? There will be some large amounts coming off in the next year or 2 and without knowing what we do with Hank and Staal over the summer this whole discussion of what we can do or not do is too premature.

We have to pay players in the next 2ish years. Tony this year. Kakko in 2 years. Fox in 2 years. Mika in 2 years. If Lindgren keeps progressing, him at the end of next year.

All of this money that is being cleared is already allocated towards paying future players.

EDIT: Forgot Buch.

The Skjei deal is "meh" in the same way the Stepan trade was "meh". People just don't want to acknowledge that cap space is a huge asset and adds a lot of value to a trade.

Hopefully the Rangers spend it more wisely than they did the last time around.

you nailed it cap space is extremely valuable. We got out of a long term deal that wasn’t necessarily working without taking a dime back and got a first rounder in the process. And we didn’t deal him to Boston we dealt him to a team barely in the playoffs. That’s going to be a pick in the teens or early 20s most likely in a very good draft

Trading skjei could just as easily be a nice palliative to those who were so quick to say 'same old rangers' ignoring cap issues and mis-evaluating defensemen when kreider resigned. This front office continues to surprise me, personally.

Well let's hope the Buch and Shesty injuries and the Skjei trade cause a free fall down the standings.

And then that Carolina (or Toronto?) also misses the playoffs.

I'd put Smith with Trouba... hopefully its not too bad.

We really need another Lindgren type to work with Trouba long term.

Robertson, Jones, Miller, Hajek and Reuanen hopefully. I'm guessing Rykov is not working since he's been scratched
Rykov has had an upper body injury for the past several games.

Kreider resigned and Skjei traded for a first.

Kinda underwhelming. We'll see what they do in the offseason.

I am willing to be lambasted for thinking Kreider signing will ever be possible. So if you like, may I please have another spanking?

Couldn't be happier I was a 100% wrong on this.

The biggest positive here is that this is a massive shift towards getting DeAngelo signed.

2 more 1sts in this draft gives us that extra ammunition. Skjei's replacement/upgrade is going to have to come from outside of the organization.

The Kreider term is ass even if the dollars are under market value.

It might be time to try Lindgren with Trouba as our 'matchup pair'.

Lindgren Trouba
Staal ADA
Smith Fox

or just slot Smith in for Skjei.. Hopefully Rykov or Hajek get chances soon

Smith Trouba
Staal ADA
Lindgren Fox

Wasn't thrilled with the Kreider signing but atleast we got some cap space and another 1st rounder. Since we're keeping Kreider that's about as good as it could have went I'd say as my biggest concern was the space to stay competitive

Would much prefer the Leafs pick. Yes, they likely get in based on their division, but they won't be going far. Canes could get in and shock again, but risk they miss it. Leafs pick is more destined to be in the 16-18 range, where the Canes could be a lotto pick, but could also end up being higher no matter what. Metro is wide open and the Canes did it last season.

I wonder what #14 and #21 can get you up to.
