You don't trade your top pairing LD for futures if you think you can make the playoffs

Yeah I'm pretty confused at how the TDL ended.

I hate the Kreider extension, but get why they did it.

Trading Skjei is waiving the white flag for a possible Cinderella cup run this year (which is the right move, IMO). But, in that case, why keep Fast? I get on waiting for Buch/Strome till the offseason? But Fast?

Confused.

Finally able to get back on this site. We're still waiting on the confirmation of the Skjei trade, but it's a bit meh that they only got a 1st for him. But I view this huge seeing that his $5.2M cap hit is gone on a declining player. Plus NYR did get a 1st rounder and was able to keep Kreider on a pretty good contract. Obviously we'll see that with age, but I'm pretty happy with how the deadline went for Gorton and the Rangers.

Again, though, still waiting on the trade confirmation for Skjei.

Everyone celebrating the Kreider contract needs to look at what just happened here.

Skjei should have returned more but their bind forced them to give him up "on the cheap." This is what happens when you have dead weight contracts.

This is a direct result of Smith and Staal.

Why should he have returned more?

Re-signing Fast makes 0 sense-- especially since w're keeping Kreider.
I see no scenario where Fast is worth the multiple year commitment he'd rightfully ask for. Because of Kreider, paying 3M+ contracts to bottom/middle 6 players is a luxury we can't afford for the next few years.
I don't get this Board. First of all they signed Kreider because there is no one currently in the pipeline that can replace him. If you had traded him and then tried to sign someone over the summer that can fill the void it would have cost you maybe not as much but something relatively close. But here is what I don't get. The whole argument on Kreider was the outer years more than the money but now all of a sudden because we signed him the next year or 2 is a problem? There will be some large amounts coming off in the next year or 2 and without knowing what we do with Hank and Staal over the summer this whole discussion of what we can do or not do is too premature.

I was hoping we wouldn't end up needing to move Skjei as a cap dump.

Don't get me wrong, I wanted him gone probably more than anyone, but I felt he could have returned an NHL level asset that could contribute to our roster.

I always thought it made more sense to trade him in the off season, maybe for an RFA forward or similar cost-controlled forward depth with development potential.

The year will be 2194 and the trade deadline will come and go and the server's on this website will still not be up to par to deal with the traffic on deadline day.

A disgrace, and a slap in the face of every single person like myself who pays a yearly subscription for not being able to access the boards at the most important time.

And that is why I will never pay to be a sponsor.

I'd put Smith with Trouba... hopefully its not too bad.

We really need another Lindgren type to work with Trouba long term.

Robertson, Jones, Miller, Hajek and Reuanen hopefully. I'm guessing Rykov is not working since he's been scratched

This day turned out very good from my perspective. Probably only offered a 3rd or 4th for Fast..not enough...try to resign him..perfect for our team. Skjei may turn out like JT Miller and do better elsewhere..he sure had his chances and played below expectations in addition to our LD depth needed to go. And a potential potential 20 pick in 1st round..Ill take it. Maybe move ADA to left of Trouba.

Are we sure were done and there isn't a possible fast trade in the queue?

Young top 4 D with term left?

Yeah id want more than a late-ish 1st for him, and it sounds like Carolina gets to choose which one they send.

Better than Staal can.
TSN analyst said was a couple of late moves to come in from NHL office ....take that for what it is worth....minor stuff maybe.

We're not 'waving the white flag'

We're trimming the fat. It's unfortunate what happened with Shesty and Buch but lets not act like Skjei was some great player for us. Staal has been just as good if not better than Skjei.

Look to move Staal and Smith in the off-season.

See what HL does. If he retires, it saves us. If he's bought out we save $3M.

Getting a 1st for Skjei in a deep draft is beautiful.

Shayna is probably sitting at home breaking this Skjei trade

Meanwhile our worthless beat writers are all at the training facility and they still haven't gotten any details on Kreider's contract

The Skjei deal is "meh" in the same way the Stepan trade was "meh". People just don't want to acknowledge that cap space is a huge asset and adds a lot of value to a trade.

Hopefully the Rangers spend it more wisely than they did the last time around.

Isn't the space basically already spent on CK and his almost $2m extra and a probable ADA raise?
