1st round pick doens't seem like much (though is it the Leafs or Carolinas?) but I have to think a lot of this is thinking about cap implications after signing Kreider plus honestly being dissatisifed with Skjei not livng up to his contract

Thank f***ing god. Gorton saved the deadline a bit by getting rid of Skjei who declined last season and looked downright brutal most of this season. Glad we got rid of that contract.

So that's the proverbial towel thrown in for this season. But Fast is a self-rental for a non-playoff run. Odd. Not a huge "mistake", just disjointed. I'm wondering how Lindgren looks without Skjei eating some tough minutes. Brady took a licking around here but he wasn't playing too bad lately. Not living up to his contract and that's on him, but not fully appreciated either.

I don't think they're throwing the towel in but these moves also aren't about this season so much as coming seasons. If they didn't trade Fast I suspect they think they can sign him which is...weird
