Correct me if I'm wrong, but we only have 2-3 RHD in the pipeline don't we? (Off the top of my head, Lagesson, Marino and Bear?)

Bear for sure, seen him quite a few times this year and he looks great.

I though Lagesson was a lefty? Going off memory.

Not sure on Marino, and too lazy to look it up, ha.

I wish one of the top D this year were a RHS. I'd draft Juolevi either way if no one offers us a top right shot D in a trade for the pick if we pick 4 or lower.

It will be interesting to see how this draft lottery shakes out. If we are drafting 3rd or below, I could see Chiarelli dropping down (depending on who he likes, I remember him saying earlier he was really looking forward to seeing some of the OHL guys) and picking up a few extra assets. Puljujarvi, while very skilled, is probably not the type of player they'd need. We see enough puck transporters and distributors -- it's shooters, goal scorers, aggressive players who take straight lines to the net and puck that we really need, I think *if* we're drafting forwards. D-men can probably and should be addressed through a trade, it's alot to have to wait for a d-man's development cycle to ramp up to where this team needs.

If the Oilers won the Lottery I'd try hard to trade down to #2 if I was going to keep the 1st rounder. The Leafs in particular might well give you Pittsburgh's 1st if they were at #2. That pick could be added to a package to get an even better defender. Or package it with the other assets to try and take a shot at a guy like Sergachev.

Leafs would give alot for Mathews

I don't think we will be picking top 4. Team is going to improve too much over the rest of the year IMO. Juolevi / Chychrun, here we come?

Talbot and Brossoit we traded for and Lauri we signed. So I wouldn't bother drafting a goalie. We are terrible at that. Just have teams develop for us abs trade for them when the time comes

This + 1000. Drafting goalies is like playing the slot machines. Just a pure crapshoot. They are what your 7th round pick is for.

Also, I have never understood NHL teams continually using their picks to draft guys that might turn into a 4th line forward or 'coke machines'. The type of guys that you can sign for a dime a dozen out of college. You should go for guys with good upside.

For those interested, Chychrun has been ppg for the last 25 or so games and looks like the player he was hyped up to be. For me personally it's between him and Sergachev if we are taking a defender. I like Juolevi but realistically he is overhyped based on his WJC.

Hope it's Juolevi, although I can't say I've seen a lot of Chychrun. Juolevi just looks like a gamebreaker.

Have you watched Juolevi's play for London? He's good but he doesn't usually look like a game breaker. Great prospect none the less. If we are picking a defender not named Chychrun then imo it has to be Sergachev. He's big defender that can play a nasty style. He has a powerful stride that allows him to maneuver around the ice very well. His slap shot is excellent and he had the best ppg of the 3 top dmen of this draft. He had a slow start to the year likely because of adjusting to the NA style but he's flying now.

Probably not a guy we're going to target but you have to like the kind of game Jonathan Dahlén plays. Seems incredibly underrated in draft rankings. Leads his team in scoring as an 18 year old playing in a men's league. Had 2 assists in the last regular season game to help his team just barely making the playoffs too. I would not be averse of picking him with our 2nd round pick if he is still there. Our forward depth is quite bad and while this is another "skilled forward" I think he could become a very good player, maybe the future 2nd line LW behind Hall even. Even though he's on the smaller side at 5'11 (close to 6ft) he has a good motor and is not afraid to go to the tough areas. Far from a perimeter player. Great edgework, really shifty. Reminds me a lot of Nikolaj Ehlers actually. Hard to believe he is ranked in the 2nd round.

Check out this video:

Slowly starting to enter top 30 rankings - I know hockeyprospects ranked him 29th.

But, I agree, he is very underrated, and if he falls to the 2nd round or even 3rd, someone could be getting a steal.

Great player, awesome, effortless skating, great shot, and superb edgework a'la Ehlers.

Would fit in Edmonton fine, but not sure what picks you have late 1st early - mid 2nd, where I suspect he'll end up.

Predicting where we will draft is a fools game. With the lottery we could easily be picking 1st no matter how high we climb. Most likely we are somewhere in the top 6.

The one thing I have never waivered on is that Chychrun is the best defender in the draft. Not even really a debate there for me. I think the only debate is where he goes as there are about 8 forwards that could realistically go ahead of him. I think he goes at 5 right now depending how the order shakes out.

****.
Could you imagine him on a line with McDavid and Eberle?

Why Eberle? I'd rather someone like Yak or a big bodied RW.

Laine is my hope as well, but he'll never have that much open ice to work with in the NHL.

He doesn't need it, his release is quick and he has enough size to get shots off that most players cannot. That and the McDavid factor where Connor makes plays that no one else sees will give him added time.

If the Oilers won the Lottery I'd try hard to trade down to #2 if I was going to keep the 1st rounder. The Leafs in particular might well give you Pittsburgh's 1st if they were at #2. Sounds good to me.

I like how drafting Chychrun is pretty much the worst case scenario for Oilers.
Ideally we land one of the top 3 prospects, if not, we trade the pick for a top 4 Dman, and if not that we suck it up and draft a potential #1Dman.

I haven't watched them much, but I think Nathan Bastian, Taylor Raddysh and Pascal Laberge would be good potential 2nd rounders.

I agree completely. He's #5 on my list right now and the first defender off the board.
