Hi guys! What a ride it has been! And thanks for posting here, I've been reading hole season.

Can't believe where we are now. Really a rollercoaster regular season and to go in the playoffs like that. Going in to the playoffs with no hope at all facing the best regular season team ever. And they added orlov, bertuzzi and Hathaway, all of them very good hard playing players in their roles. And our boys couldn't care less. Boston played the last games like they were scared, specially in OT: s 3rd periods.

Never thought we would be on of the most physical teams and playing like this. And it wouldn't work with core we had before. Credit to zito for that. There has been a clear plan and it started from hornqvist trade.

I had totally wrong opinion about pomo before. He has totally different mojo know as the playoffs started and he really has build confidence to these guys.

This series the physicality has been the key. And of course Bob, so happy for him. Leafs really don't have answer to the physicality in their roster. If you put Luostarinen in their roster he would be the most physical player in their lineup. Nick kypreos sais that if you compare how Barkov and Matthews checks its like day and night.

What pisses me of is that outside own fanbase no one really gives that much credit to panthers. When it's Boston shitting their pants or Marner choking or Bob stealing a game or shitty refs. Been hearing over over again that how it is possible that Boston or leafs are losing to Florida freaking panthers. I mean we do have the slowest brothers that has ever played the game, guy who played 38 years in AHL, defenceman how was to bad to play in Anaheim and brain-dead Ekblad who doesn't like how to skate backwards etc. And I wouldn't change none of them because I see that they leave everything at the ice in every game and every shift. Luostarinen giving 110% is more valuable than Matthews and Marner giving 70%. In the end it's team sport guys.

Have fun and enjoy!

off-day omnibus post...

I think I'm in love with that man...

I love him in his presser, but seeing this... lol

This is on another level ! I'm LOVING it !!

People starting to like that PoMo guy or what ?

this is great. the running narrative is of course for the bench, i.e. to reinforce things he's talked about.

the presser from yesterday or this AM was also great. particularly his answer to this GR question and the follow up about commonalities in teams that go on runs.

to be able to provide that perspective for your players, and to know when to get out of the way when you can... i'm sure it's fairly common but he articulates it very well.

coaches have a role for sure but his point undercuts a lot of the talk around guys getting outcoached, etc. you're there to reinforce concepts, provide perspective, tweak matchups/lines, etc., not to control the game. the team has to do that. which leads to this post which was in my quote queue from a few days ago i think.

For me, it's the players selling out to block shots is what caught my eye. Especially Tkachuk

I saw it from Stamkos and company last playoffs and I was so envious. Seeing that really got my attention. When stars sell out, then the rest will sell out.

i think it's more about the room. i know torts has the reputation for pushing his guys to block shots but he's the only one i've heard explicitly say this. i tend to think this is more due to the bond between teammates and that grows over the course of a season (or multiple seasons) where you're willing to take a bullet for them.

about tomorrow.

I feel like we are going to win by 2-3 goals tomorrow. I just do not see the fight in the Leafs. I hope that is the case. I do not want to give them, or their cocky, childish, arrogant fans a glimmer of hope. Destroy them tomorrow and get the much needed rest.

i'm nervous. i know maurice is doing his best to keep everything on an even keel. he's talked about routine, recovery days, etc. we should be confident but the reality is that it's been perhaps the most evenly contested series so far in the playoffs. and their top guys haven't done anything. we'll take some credit for that but you gotta realize (and maurice has alluded to it), any one of these first 3 games could've gone sideways if they get a bounce.

not to say that i'm so worried we'd be in trouble with a loss but a single win could be enough to get some of their guys believing. need to be patient and try get to our game asap.

if there's one giant factor we can settle our nerves down with, it's bob - he's been so good.

lastly, there was an interesting article in the Athletic today.

The Maple Leafs haven’t conquered their playoff demons after all

“I don’t care if we’re talking about Little League, I don’t care if we’re talking about Stanley Cup, Super Bowl, I don’t care what we’re talking about,” he said. “Until the players decide ‘we’re not gonna be stopped by anybody.’ When they get to the point where they believe in each other — ‘we believe in ourselves, and we’re gonna do what we have to do to get it done.’ And for me, if they give 100 percent, win, lose, or draw, those are my guys. That’s all I need.”

actually, it was linked to from another article, Lessons for the Maple Leafs from NHL players who came back from a 3-0 deficit, which i couldn't help myself and read. and it's an eye-opening read.

to make a long story short, what we're really seeing is two teams trying to get to or stay in the right mindset, to be in the moment, believe in themselves and have fun.

i hope we can end it tomorrow because that mindset battle gets trickier if we don't.

Then this suggests the rooms from prior years, "Family," all the buzz words were a lie. Because the players did not sell out like this as a whole. You had the odd player here and there. Forsling, Acciari, but it wasnt teamwide.

I think your stars doing it sets that example and I've seen Tkachuk just dive, even head first, into shooting lanes. But beyond that, that style of play definitely factors into it. That grinding, tough to play against style that instilled that attitude into the team.

"Tie game in the 3rd, and we are on the bench laughing."

.

Meanwhile here we all are having panic attacks, hiding under covers, meme-ing our lives away, or simply shutting off the TV and stat watching lmfao

"I havent scored either, I dont get what the big deal is about, it's not about individuals or personal stats."

Shame on all of you trying to shame Barkov round 1.

Definitely wasnt me

that's great and ties in to what maurice said.

i don't think the idea that the room runs itself has to undermine the way the guys felt about one-another last year, though. you can be a family that really cares for and enjoys each other even if you're not yet sure that you need to put your face in front of an 85mph shot.

heck, last year was probably a necessary step on the way to this year.

I dunno how I feel about those shirts being sold just yet.

Would rather finish the Leafs off and then use that as our rallying cry going forward.

Patting ourselves on the back with that kind of move seems like it could come back to haunt us.
I agree it’s like talking about brooms…don’t give ‘em a reason.

NHL.com also has a brief article where Mark Recchi talks about being on the losing side of that Bruins-Flyers series. And how the team down 0-3 suddenly has nothing to lose because nobody’s expecting them to win anymore and now all the pressure is on the 3-0 team.

I agree in general but not really in this instance because the Panthers still don’t have anything to lose. They made the playoffs on a bit of a miracle, beat the bruins out in a humongous miracle, are leading on a miracle… just keep it going as long as you can. I don’t think in this series the pressure would suddenly shift from the Leafs to the Cats. No, that’s the part of playing in Toronto, pressure is always there. Pressure to win, pressure not to lose, pressure not to get swept, pressure not to lose to certain teams especially… list goes on.

Way too easy for the Canes

Vanecek got the hook now

Lol idk what the Devils and their fans were thinking.

Vitek got the hook against us too. He isn't good lol

Jersey threw the series starting Vanecek. Schmid was struggling but a lot of it was bad defense. Vanecek let in some truly putrid goals, no chance for the Devils to win with that.
Lol apparently I gave him too much credit.

4 in 5 and a half minutes

I drove way too long lmao

Coupled with their D play it is called for disaster... NJ also isn't generating much on goal.
Vanecek hasn't made the saves on top. Just not gonna work in the playoffs. I would have gone with Schmid

Unreal, how the other team gets blown out in every series. And we have to suffer through these nail biting games lol

As long as we end up on top. As far as the rest of the series, I'm confident we end it in 4,5, or 6. These guys are way too resilient to drop 4 straight. That being said, apparently the path to the finals is through all 3 top teams in the east. Nobody else has pulled an upset or seems like they will. That's a tough road. Will we run out of steam?
