You wanted the Bruins to instantly trade Orlov, Hathaway and Bertuzzi after trading for them at the deadline? What?

You wanted them to trade Debrusk when they were like top 3 in the entire league? What?

All fan bases have people with tear it down fetishes. The reality is that, like many markets, Boston ain’t gonna tear it down until they have to. They have retooled on the fly successfully before. But I don’t have to tell a Wings fan that sometimes that luck/ability runs dry and the rebuild is forced on you. Bruins haven’t reached that point yet, but they do need to push some buttons soon here.

The issue now though is the Bruins are very much in the group at the bottom of their division. They are getting older. The way they can (maybe?) insert some high end youth is by trading their coming UFAs for younger players and picks. What they did last summer is lose UFAs and sign older guys to big dollars. Clearly they are trying to stretch out their playoff window. Not too sure their method is the best way to accomplish that though.

IIRC you are a Leafs fan. Bruins have half as many guys over 30 on the roster than the Leafs. They are a brutally slow team. Amongst the slowest in the league. But that isn’t an age problem.

Tbh I hate the Leafs and celebrated their playoff losses to the Bruins. (Not a Bruins’ fan; just happy to see the Leafs lose)
The Bruins are at that stage now where they aren’t good enough to allow UFAs, who have value, to walk away for nothing and then expect to sign UFAs (to big contracts: Zadorov and Lindholm for example) to replace them. That philosophy, imo, only makes a team older and not better.
If they can move their coming UFAs for younger players they can extend the Pasta, McAvoy window.
Imo the Bruins should go after Zegras.

Where did I, say that ?
You’re criticizing them for letting UFA to be players go for free… while they’re contending?

At the deadline they were battling for 1st in the league…. Why would they trade Debrusk, their only notable UFA they let go?

That is not what I said, he went out and acquired 3 players Orlov, Hathaway and Bertuzzi, after giving up assets for them and could not resign them, to add to his problem he needed to trade Hall, for cap reasons, and knew he was losing Bergeron and Krecji, who he never should have brought back, and the was stuck with their bonus money the following season. So bottom line no matter how you spin it SWEENEY f***ED UP!!!!!

And this year the Bruins are battling with the bottom of their division. And those clubs have either recently rebuilt or are rebuilding. They all have young cores that are likely to get better. All while the Bruins get older and slower. Imo the Bruins should be after Zegras.

He never should have brought back their #1 and #2C

They literally had a record setting season… and you wanted them to sell?

Funny, I just posted on the Bruins board earlier today that the Bruins need to make some “roll the dice” moves like the Panthers did with Bennett and Reinhart. PLD was one they passed on. Zegras might be one out there now, but would cost a lot more than PLD did. But yeah, agree they can’t *just* build thru UFA. Especially with the cap exploding and those UFA contracts getting bigger and bigger each year.

I do think some of their issues are trying to move to a new set of principles in their systems and it being a slog. They are trying to go from a “break out with control” game plan that Florida has torn to pieces the last two playoffs to more “flip it to center ice and win the puck battle or race to the puck” strategy and they just ain’t making the plays in center ice either because they ain’t quick enough to win the races or are making bad choices when they do. The latter can be fixed with keeping at it, the former is a roster construction problem. Too many old Nintendo “big fat slow” guys on the roster. Needs more balance.

Amen to this.

This place in particular, is obviously pretty bad about desiring these often impossible "tear it down rebuilds". Especially in markets and situations where there's just no mandate for that coming from ownership. And where...like Boston, they've got substantial "veteran" cap commitments to "good - but not good enough" players.

When you've got pieces like McAvoy, Pasta, Marchand, etc. you're not going to "tear it down". You might concede the season at some point, but it's always going to be more of a "retool" when you've got those, plus another few practically "unmovable" contracts (due to $$$, NTC/NMC protections, optics, etc.). Plus a 25-year old goalie they just signed to a huge long-term deal.

I think a lot of it is just ignoring practical considerations in the mechanics of how a "tear down" would even work.

The other part is just...somehow, despite watching a bunch of teams spin their wheels for half a decade, or a decade even...there's this delusional notion that teams can just "flip a switch" after a couple years of "tanking" and become great again. Just not understanding how long those sort of "rebuilds" really take. Or how teams typically end up there.

Where it's usually a long, slow, agonizing slide into it. As you wait on a locked in veteran core to "age out". Then you end up in the absolute cellar, and start to accumulate the cap flexibility and young talent to completely rebuild around a different new core.

Been seeing Caps fans on RMNB who want to trade our 1st round pick this year for him. Seems like a massive overpay to me. What is his value?
Rumblings that the Oilers are interested too.

In a vacuum probably a 2nd but with multiple interested teams and given his age and that he's probably be an inexpensive re-sign, I could see a 2nd and a later 3rd or maybe a low 1st.

With the multiple amount of teams still in the hunt, the Bruins would be wise to move Frederic for assets to acquire Zegras. Ask about the cost of Wright. Look into Gauthier as well. A playoff team like Edmonton or Winnipeg would be a perfect fit for his play and could resign him as well for years on a good deal.

Toronto could also use him and the best trade should be the focus.

The Bruins should have traded him when I made this thread in November. He has been ass this season. I would have said he'd get a 1st for sure back then. Now I'd be happy with a 2nd and like a 4th.
