GDT: Team USA vs Germany (Semifinals)

Ugh.

I was listening to the draft on the highway and I almost drove off the road because I was convinced we would pick JJ.
now you'll just have to play him 6-8 times a year for the next 10 years instead

Montreal really likes to draft ncaa guys, Caulfield, Hutson, Luke Tuch.
I would actually guess that they draft less NCAA players on average than the NHL as a whole. For instance, out off 11 picks in 2022, 2 were/are NCAA-bound and 0/9 picks were in 2021. Caufield and Hutson are two very high profile ones as it just so happen to be.

Ottawa has Kleven, Sanderson, Boucher,
Pinto, Tkachuk, Bernard-Docker in the last few years as far as early picks are concerned.

Four of the six of them from the University of North Dakota, the other two with Boston U.

We used to joke on the Sens board that it saved on scouting costs to draft everyone from the same team.

Ottawa is basically USNDTP North. So many guys from that program that end up in Ottawa.

There was always an undercurrent of uneasiness about American players staying in Ottawa but both Brady and Norris signed long-term and so far it hasn’t been a problem.

Maybe it goes back to Berard.

DeBrincat probably won’t sign but I think a lot of it has to do with being slotted in on the second line and what that could do to his production over the long term.

You can’t pay a second line winger what he wants to be paid.

True and DeBrincat hasn’t been there as long, i.e. he didn’t come up with those guys and he’s so close to unrestricted free agency that there’s some logic to testing his value on the market.

Icing when Eyssimont clearly beat him. Classic IIHF.

He also didn’t waive anything to get traded to Ottawa.

I think the hope was that the team would be young and competitive and he’d want to be a part of it, but missing the playoffs, not scoring his usual total of goals and his deployment behind Giroux, Stutzle and Tkachuk doesn’t exactly make it the best fit.

I understand if he wants to do what is best for his career. You typically only get two big contracts after UFA age so you gotta make them count.

They can’t pay him more than Stutzle and Tkachuk and that’s below his 9M qualifying offer.

Someone desperate for skill and goals might open up the chequebook.

Game on, no more talking about the Sens LoL.

Holy moly

I know that's probably not what they're selling but those Liqui Moly signs always makes me think someone out here selling liquid ecstacy

Yeeeeesss!!! 3-3, brilliant!! I don’t even root for one team over the other, but it’s great to have a tied game with a bit over a minute to go. Don’t want it to end yet.
