WC: Team Switzerland 2022

Lets imagine if both josi and fiala joins. What a team. Hope Kurashev is ready to start too

Fiala is close to getting thrown out of the playoffs as well. Apparently he is a free agent this summer. I haven't been able to follow the news cycle the past few weeks. Has there been any indication that he might join if Minnesota should lose? He is probably signing the contract of his life this summer so it seems unlikely?

If I understood it right via google translator, all players will join if available.

According to Blick Kurashev is Covid free and Geisser got the ok from his organisation. It was a bit weirdly worded but it sounds like both are coming.

Fiala is RFA, so still tied to MIN, but they will have trouble to find cap space to sign him.

Ok thanks for clearing that up, I thought he was a UFA for some reason. So there is probably a chance that MIN would hold him back, if they wanted to make sure he doesn't get hurt. This could hurt his trade value if they cant find a solution to fit his new contract under the cap.

Oh crap...

I always find funny when players decline due to wife pregnacy. It's not like he will deliver a child...

The Federation needs to rent a hospital room in Helsinki and fly in his wife and her parents. Problem solved. :D
Hmm... a kid like that must have pretty good hockey genes. So we Finns grant the kid a citizenship based on the fact he (or why not she, too) was born here, then poach 'em some 15 years later. :naughty:

You know I' d rather have him (or her) play for you guys than for the US. And thats no a copletely unlikely scenario. So if this finally gets us the gold, why not?

Sven Bärtschi moved to Bern, why does he have only 1 game for the national team all the time? A very talented hockey player, a difficult character?

Not sure about actual lines but I would be very suprised if Malgin is not playing. He had a really good season and also showed up big time in the playoffs, he will be on the ice. Given that we might dress 13 F I could actually see Ambühl being in that role.

I was looking at eliteprospect, Malgin was not listed

I'd be very surprised if Malgin doesn't play center, I don't remember seeing him on the wing. Suter and Kurashev are more likely to be moved to the wing.

Regarding the lines, I guess it's a safe bet that Hischier will play with Meier, but apart from that anyone's guess is as good as mine. I didn't like Suter and Corvi on the same line against the Czech last week, but I remember Ambühl - Malgin - Suter being a thing back in 2017 (which admittedly is close to being ancient history, but this is a line that makes sense). Corvi worked well with Simion last year, and this is a pair that makes sense too. Then Scherwey, Thürkauf and Bertschy played a lot together during the training camp. Riat was tried with Hischier and Meier and did well against Sweden, and he could be a placeholder in case Fiala joins later (a bit like Praplan was out of place on the top line in 2019 but then was dropped from the lineup when Niederreiter joined). That leaves Kurashev and Herzog for the Corvi line and the 13th forward spot, but I expect the first game to be played with 12 forwards as Fischer will want to leave space for Fiala and Niederreiter.

So here is my best guess:

Riat - Hischier - Meier
Ambühl - Malgin - Suter
Kurashev - Corvi - Simion
Scherwey - Thürkauf - Bertschy

You can also make a case that Bertschy should play on a more offensive line, and that Herzog brings more than Riat and should be put somewhere. Kurashev played with Hischier last year so it's another possibility, although it didn't work particularly well. Eggenberger played an important role on the PP during the warmup games so there might be a spot for him too.

No Josi .. still strong team but no josi no medal :( Fiala maybe could change it

Its certainly disappointing. But Josi always reported when available in the past. Even after hard playoff campaigns. He deserves to stay with his wife and be around for the birth of his child. Now others need to step up. This roster is still good enough to make a medal run, even without Josi.

it's a pitty that Josi won't join but he well deserved the rest and the absence is reasoned. I still see a good chance to medal especially if Fiala would be available since we've been lacking efficiency to score in the past an with Meier, Fiala there is a good chance that scoring won't be such an issue anymore
