Team Should Get the Full PP Chance Even if It Rolls Past 60 Regulation Minutes

Extending time isn't really workable but I like the penalty shot idea. Right now you are incentivized to take penalties as time winds down because there's not enough time to get a full pp.

I also have always thought there should be plays that start with one team in possession.

Your take.

We all complain about the quality of officiating and you want to make a rule that gives a referee even more power to screw things up.

Just watched Utah win 2-1 over SJ but there was a double minor high sticking call late to Utah; SJ wasn’t able to score in regulation but had 3 minutes+ of PP time lost.

I know there’s been threads on this before but not going to find it with the site updating.

I think if a team down and gets a late PP like this they should get the opportunity to run their full PP even if it runs a bit after 60 minutes. Of course if they take a penalty or the shorthanded team scores then it’s game over.

Your take.
So why would a team that’s won the game, want to keep playing, can’t think of any league wanting to do that.

if for some dumb reason, teams did keep playing, why does the game suddenly end, if another penalty. If the short handed team scored they should win the game. (Makes as much sense).

Extended time is ugly and would cause issues.

Maybe if you lose more than a minute, an option for a penalty shot occurs. I could live with that

Doesn't matter when a penalty happens. If you can't tie or win in 60 minutes, you don't deserve extra time. That's my take.

I said if the team that’s down/trailing gets a late PP.

Took me way too long to realize you weren’t talking about rolling PP minutes into overtime. I thought “don’t they already do that?”

But you’re actually talking about extending the game to play out a powerplay?

Oh god please no

If we add more 'fun' rules, it might bring Roger Neilson back to life to abuse these rules.

I miss his antics

Nah, it sucks, but this just creates too many dumb loopholes and redundant enforcements of a rule that shouldn't be. If a team has a 2 goal lead with 60 seconds or whatever and gets a pp, do we extend the game just because it's a new rule? The clock is the clock.

Nah, you have 60 minutes to outscore the other team. Penalties don't change that.
