if malkin, panarin and kuznetsov dont play, then russia dont have better forwards than canada, usa, finland and sweden.

Ovechkin - Grigorenko - Kucherov
Kaprizov - Shipachyov - Tarasenko
A,Svechnikov - Namnestikov - Radulov
Guryanov - Barbashyov - Buchnevich

Looks very solid.

He failed in Vegas. With your logic, Omark is top 6 quality in NHL. Shipa would not make Sweden or Finland.

Shipa-grigorenko-namnestikov-barbashev is not better center-line than barkov-aho-hintz-kotkanemi and zibanejad-pettersson-backström-william karlsson
He never played in Vegas. Stop this nonsensic narrative. Shipachev is twice the player Omark is. Shipachyov would also easily make Team Sweden or Finnlad as their center depth is also not exactly Canada's.

Hmm Shipachev definitely isnt better than Barkov Aho or Hintz maybe same level as Migranlund/Kotkaniemi?

Atas will probably disagree since Shipachyov is seemingly the second coming of Kharlamov for him these days but I actually think Granlund is a great comparable for him.

I am not saying Shipachyov would center Team Finnland 1st line, but he is miles better that anyone Finnland could have on the 4th.

LOL

And don't embarass yourself by bringing Kharlamov into this. You could have at least picked a center. I love how the NHL bias is still alive and kicking. People will never learn to evaluate players NOT based on the league they play in alone.

I feel no shame. And Granlund is a center so.. I don't even get in what areas in your surely unbiased evaluation is Shipachyov so far ahead. You are acting like he was scoring 2 PPG in the KHL his whole career, not for the last 10 games.

NHL has nothing to do with this. They are different players but their main strengths and weaknesses are rather similar as is the overall skill level. You probably deleted this from memory :)

Uhhhmmm... you really do have a very weird concept of time it seems. It is borderline sci-fi worthy. Do we have a time machine to go get players from the past to play for us in February? Why would anybody care what those players were like 5 years ago? We are selecting a team here and now and here and now Shipachyov is the best center and the best player in the KHL by a country mile.

Granlund is a center, yes. How about Kharlamov you brought up? You should be ashamed for using such kindergarten rhetorical tricks. And if you think Granlund is somehow in a similar tier, then think that. It is hilarious though. I don't care. What really bothers me is that the kind of player Granlund is would make Team Russia. That's how bad our center depth is.

And is you really, really want to go historical that bad, then here you go. Before Kaprizov left Shipachyov and Kaprizov were easily in their own tier and the two best players in the league and I am not too sure Kaprizov was the better one even by a hair. His only advantage was and is age. So no, Shipachyov wasn't scoring 2 PPG in the KHL, but he still was the league's best player... in the past and not this season FWIW.

And who knows what posting one video of one goal is supposed to prove, but this is so HFBoards. Amazing!

Well, that's just the issue, Shipachyov playing out of his mind in September doesn't mean he won't be back to his career-average self in February. Statistically speaking, it's far more likely he will. That's still a superb player (especially in the context of other Russian centers) but not someone on the level of the world's very best.

Regarding Kaprizov, it is a fair argument but you could say the same about Gusev's days in the KHL. Gusev and Shipachyov were the best players in their day. Not every KHL star is a Kaprizov, NHL is a different animal. Ship is still lightweight, not exactly defensive specialist, etc. His offensive skills are A tier but he is by no means a complete package most NHL 1st line centers are. Keep in mind even someone like Kuznetsov, talented as he is, needed 1,5 seasons to truly grow up to the NHL level.

Look, I like Shipachyov. Always defended him during the Vegas debacle, always praised his offensive skills, never doubted he is NHL-level talent, etc. He is a great player to watch too. But there is no need to blow it out of proportion just because the guy is having a hot streak at age 35. If we were to project him into the NHL it would be "offensively talented 2nd line forward, 1st PP unit, 50-60 points" or something along those lines. If you think that's incorrect then think that, as you'd say.

please tell me how shipachyov is better than Zibanejad, Pettersson, Bäckström and William karlsson.

If we gonna use Atas logic, then Omark is a better player than Guryanov, Nisch and Buchnevich, hence, Omark would make Team Russia.
