Team Finland WC 2023

Pesonen and Ma.Granlund join the camp roster. Lehtonen and Lindbohm join later, no word on Lammikko. Out with an injury perhaps?
Leijonat - Pesonen ja Granlund mukaan Leijoniin MM-leirityksen toiselle viikolle

That would be a loss, but luckily our center situation should look decent after Florida is out. Maybe Filppula still wants to do his farewell tournament at home as well. If all of them would say no or injured, then perhaps we'd be looking at Tyrväinen or using Sallinen as a center for bottom 6. Then there are Miro Aaltonen and Jori Lehterä options for top-6 role. Hopefully Mikael Granlund will be used as a winger in the tournament.

I'd go with the following centers if possible: Barkov, Suomela, Lundell or Luostarinen, Björninen. Who knows though. Maybe Carolina drops out first round which would give us more options. Carolina just hasn't been very hot lately and could see them drop early....Impossible to predict as we all know, nonetheless.

Season has been over for Tyrväinen and Aaltonen and they are not in the camp, i don't believe that they get selected later. Sallinen, Lehterä and Kossila are possible, i think Suomela and Björninen are in. Ruohomaa might be the extra center but his role might get bigger, depending on NHL players.

Good news. Hopefully we'll hear more such news this week.

I know some people are not the biggest fans of Kapanen but he finished his season strong and he's still a fine middle 6 NHL player. He'll definitely be an asset for the team.

First NHLer kassu (kasperi) kapanen is confirmed as per leijonat.fi ... Let's open the flood gates, boys!

I'm glad to hear that YLE's Tommi Seppälä was wrong with that. Not too long ago he was quite sure that Kapanen wouldn't be there. So not going to listen/read his predictions on this subject anymore.

Awesome about Määttä. The magnets are in full effect now. More NHL players will attract more NHL players. The sooner we get them, the better. Let's hope that this is finally the year when we get almost too many of them. It's been a disappointment after disappointment with roster building year after year for me. I'm glad that WHC golds/success don't go hand in hand with the amount of NHL players though, but I do want to see after a while a Finnish team loaded with NHL players such as the team Kari Jalonen had in 2016.

Some of the biggest names on the list were pretty young back then and not mature enough as hockey players, but what a nice list of names. Especially with the forwards:

Patrik Laine
Mikael Granlund
Mikko Koivu
Jussi Jokinen
Aleksander Barkov
Leo Komarov
Sebastian Aho
Jarno Koskiranta
Mika Pyörälä
Esa Lindell
Juuso Hietanen
Antti Pihlström
Atte Ohtamaa
Teemu Pulkkinen
Topi Jaakola
Tomi Sallinen
Ville Pokka
Tommi Kivistö
Anssi Salmela
Mikko Rantanen
Juuse Saros
Lasse Kukkonen
Jani Lajunen
Mikko Koskinen

If we had that list of names today. Every other team would shit their pants at WHC level. Defense is not super but it's not bad either and this would be enough to dominate every game until gold. Our coach would be an upgrade as well from Kari to Jukka.

Guy is hot garbage. Glad he said no.

Always the same story with Ristolainen. If a best on best tournament happens in the next 4 years, who ever is the coach then, please don't invite this guy. We know that's fake that he says he has some injury/injuries. He says the same thing every time. Philadelphia wasn't even close in making the playoffs and yet they were still playing "injured" Ristolainen. It doesn't make sense.

This is a great start indeed.

Maata and Kapanen will be big pieces and nice to get the ball rolling.

Exciting start. Hopefully that will encourage others.

If Risto was asked and turned it down then I think that's his last national team chance. I honestly felt like he needed more than Finland.

Let's be honest. Maata is a bigger piece anyway.

So happy with this start.

So you all probably saw that Dallas got a surprise defeat last night, but I think that the bigger story of that game is that Pavelski got injured. The coach doesn't think that Pavelski can play in game 2. What a team we'll have if both Dallas and Florida will be out after the first round of playoffs. Then there's also the possibility to add Rantanen or Aho or something as a late arrival from playoffs round 2 if their teams go to second round and would get eliminated there.

"Stars forward Joe Pavelski left the game at 12:02 in the second period after a hit from Wild defenseman Matt Dumba."

"No, no I'm not confident for [Pavelski's availability for] Game 2," Dallas coach Peter DeBoer said. "He's OK. He's walking out of the rink on his own OK."

That looks nasty. At 52 seconds. First he gets hit in the head and then his head hits the ice again. Must be a concussion. He might not play anymore or it might take more than one game off at least. Dallas' amazing first line gets their chemistry messed up now and we'll see how that goes.

I think Husso's world cup response suggests another nhl goalie is in the pipeline. "Probably not" just makes me think hes unlikely to go as another is being selected. I do think in jalonen's mind he would favour Lankinen over Husso due to past experiences. Ie. He delivered big time to win gold for Finland before.

Could be reading too much into it but I think one of Saros or Lankinen is coming. Hopefully Saros of course but I'm not going to cry too much if it's Lankinen. He s been really really good this year and is proven.

Husso most likely out. Not that I was expecting him to come anyways.
Has officially turned it down now. But all good. We'll get at least one of saros-lankinen. Either way, Säteri would be fine, too. Has had a good season this year.

Actually he is coming off his best season and has started to play to the level his talent suggests being coached by Brad Shaw and John Tortorella.
Lehtinen and Jalonen invited him and he said ei kiitos. What can you do?
