Team Finland WC 2023

They might not have anyway, as you say. Just he got injured right before the chance to send guys down for Clear Day, so we didn't get to find out.

He's basically #1/2C in Nashville now. It's interesting how different league play and perceptions are, because Parssinen was significantly better than Granlund this year for us. If some of these players listed here are better than Parssinen, well, it's Gold for Finland for sure! ;)

NHL play style seems to fit Pärssinen well. Some players are like that. Granlund is really good in the international games, actually since 2011. Pärssinen didn't get his chance with the men's team yet and it would be fun to see that.

Love the optimistic prediction. That top line would be unstoppable.

I imagine since I'm seeing hintz, you got heiskenen, lindell and Hakanpaa on the backend. Saros in goals.

It is possible though. Unlikely but possible.

For sure I'd have those guys, yep. If Pavelski stays out, Minnesota can take out that weakened Dallas in that series. Pavelski is the type of spiritual leader and all other things that you can't loose in the playoffs. Many say that he is the best offensive net front presence forward in the league and I probably agree. He is very close to that. Well, the next game of that series is coming in some hours, so that will be very interesting if Minnesota can take a 2-0 lead in that series.

The thing about Saros for me and I might get some punishment for questioning him at all here... Yes he is most likely the best goalie of his size in the world, but he is small and I can't always get my head around that fact. Sometimes there just will be space in the goal for opponents to score no matter how well he plays. So for that I'd personally prefer bigger goalies, but I guess it's not about preference. Who stops the most pucks is what matters. He got his all-star invitation for a reason. Saros must be the best option right now as Olkinuora's form doesn't seem amazing. Säteri could be a potential option maybe, but he isn't that big either so Saros is a lot better option. Let's say that Los Angeles was out of the playoffs and Korpisalo would have a contract for next season, then it would be same to me if it would be Korpisalo or Saros in goal. I wonder, do they ever measure goalies' reach, like in basketball? It should be a stat that matters for goalies like the height does.

I disagree on Saros. He s unbelievable. His size works for him because he so agile. There's no gaps in his body shape making saves. You rarely see those goals that go through a goalie like you do a big goalie with Saros, through five hole etc. There's nothing down low. He s just so agile. There's more room up top than there is with a big goalie but he makes up for it with reflexes and agressive positioning. He is absolutely outstanding and no other Finnish goalie comes close. Not because they are not good. They are but Saros is just that good. He is absolutely and utterly elite.

Although he didn't play a single NHL game this season, Roby Boom Boom Jarventie has had a solid, albeit injury shortened season for Belleville Senators (AHL). He is a natural goal scorer with an NHL calibre shot, finished the season with 16 goals and 14 assists in 40 games. 12 of his goals were in the powerplay where he displayed his lethal one-timers. 20 year old LW who has been playing full-time centre since January.

Might be in consideration for Team Finland at the World's.

He is definitely developing really nicely. As is Thomson. Ottawa/Belleville doing a great job with them but no chance for Jarventie in my opinion. More chance for Thomson but I doubt that also.

Larmi has been excellent for Växjö. Now, you probably have better options but a possible 3rd goalie.

Kinda hard to see, too much of the top talent wants to play this year. I would imagine that next year might be quieter year, Järventie would have better chance then.

I forget if it was 3 or more seasons ago now... there was a point where Saros made a very deliberate adjustment in his play style to keep his torso more upright in the butterfly and to challenge shooters a bit more instead of staying deep. Up to then, most Preds fans had trouble too worrying about space up top, and whether Saros could ultimately carry the load as a true elite #1 NHL goalie the way Rinne did.

But as soon as he made those fixes, the fears have disappeared entirely. He doesn't get beat high anymore, has the same incredible lateral speed, and also improved his rebound control. Everything together has very clearly vaulted him into the current top 5 of NHL goalies.

No idea if he will want to keep playing in the WC or not. He has played the most games and faced the most shots of any goalie in the NHL over the last 2 years, maybe he just wants a break.

I got a feeling that we'll see Suomela and Kapanen in the same line tomorrow as neither of them played today and both are most likely locks to be in the final team.

No rumours about more additions?

No rumours about anyone else who missed playoffs. Most likely all of them declined as usual. People here are overly optimistic about this years team being full of nhl:ers and forget our recent history with them.

No Kapanen and Suomela. It's clearly a sign with Suomela that he's considered to be a lock for the team already, unless there's illness/injury, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's sort of too good for these games and we'll save him for the harder games. He'll certainly be useful against Sweden in the next two weeks when we will play vs Sweden 3 times.

It's kind of interesting that Björninen and Mörkö Anttila are playing in every game if Jalonen is planning to have them in the final team. They aren't worried about them betting banged up it seems. Of other assumed locks for the final team, Ohtamaa seems to be resting in this one.

Its 2 Times not 3

Its 2 Times not 3

3 times. Two games next week and one in the EHT Czech tournament, which I believe is one week later? That's why I said in the next two weeks. Ok technically two weeks + 2 days if it's a Sunday game.

On another topic, I'm glad to see that Denmark exposed our problem, the lack of scoring. Suomela didn't play and we've been quite dependant of his scoring in the Norway games. I'm glad that we get Manninen soon as well. Top-6 with forwards need few more reinforcements. I'm hoping that with the final team Kapanen isn't a PP player. I'm hoping that we get enough talent coming so that wouldn't happen.

The defender side is getting better next week already with Lehtonen to the offensive end and Lindbohm to the defensive end and Määttä can do both if needed.
