That sounds quite disrespectful and I didn't expect that. What do you mean? Like mute you or something? Send me a private message, because I don't want to cause any drama. It's not the place for it. I would mute you straight now, but I like your posts, so I'll ask first.
It was a joke. Refering to your excitement as well, i can feel that everyone is quite excited now.

I've been listening too much of Aamulypsy, "calm down and let go of my hand" was one of the jokes often used by Jaajo when one his co-hosts were getting excited on various subjects.

I never listen to that but we better stop derailing the thread more now lol. Sounds like one of those jokes easier to understand face to face. Textual form can make one's imagination fly in weird places.

The last time I was this excited for Skoda was 2016. Unfortunately, many teams are low on NHL quality but hey, I can't complain, we just added a guy who broke 100pts in the regular season. This is going to be an entertaining team to watch.

J.Jalonen deserves a stacked roster, because so often he has some kind of underdog teams on paper. Now it seems like he will finally get one. It will be fun to see if it's like 2016 junior WHC with offensive fireworks. I'm not going to promise us gold yet because sometimes lately in the WHC the most stacked teams didn't do well and Jukka Jalonen's success streak with the finals and so on has to end eventually, but he's a special coach so can't know what will happen. One thing is for sure that it will be fun to watch this story unfold with a more stacked roster. I'm personally tired of the 1-0 type ice hockey games, unless it's the knock out stage.

As usual the QF game is the most important game in the tournament and that determines a lot on whether the tournament will be considered succesful or not. Our QF opponent will most likely be one of Canada, Czech, Slovakia or Swiss. My biggest worry are the Czechs, with K.Jalonen knowing Finland very well. They'll have a good team with the help of Pastrnak. I hope that this match doesn't happen in the QF. Second team I want to avoid is Canada. Then there is Switzerland who has eliminated us before at the QF phase. Slovakia's losing streak against Finland has to end at some point and look what they did to our U18 team just now. The hockey in Slovakia seems to be on the rise and same with the Czechs. My point is that in the QF game it will be a scary opponent no matter what and our opponent has nothing to loose and everything to gain in that match because our team will most likely be the favorite team then.

Our tournament schedule is not easy. The schedule doesn't favor a team that has many late arriving players, who didn't get to practice with the team that much, because the matches against top countries will be played early. Such late arriving players would be Laine, Rantanen and Kakko. The first match is against USA and Sweden is the third opponent and rest of the games are much easier in comparison. Luckily USA is a team that doesn't practice for WHC that much either.

What I'm still wondering about is that is this tournament played on a small ice hockey rink (aka North-American rink) or in a normal European sized rink. A year ago they said that this year we'll finally get the small rink that was already supposed to be used a year ago. I haven't heard any news on that.

Dude, that news is from 2019. A lot has changed since then. Need more recent news on the topic and 2022 was played on big rink. There have been all kinds of last minute changes, like if I remember right last year it was a financial decision with the inflation and power costs that they wanted to save some money and delayed it. What ever the reason was, they canceled their plan already at least once, so maybe they canceled it again?

No it wasn't. The rinks were 28 meter wide because old Nordis isn't compatible with a 26 meter wide rink.

Still can't believe Rantaen is coming. He scored 62 goals this season (regular season+playoffs). He alone can do so much for our team.
He's literally a game changer. And we need to remember that Finnish system under Jalonen is working very well without star players, so when we actually get stars that are able to score with that high percentage..

Also people need to realize that Rantanen for this Finland team is much bigger thing than say Malkin for Russia back in the day. There's a difference between absolute superstar and absolute superstar that's playing 100% for the team and is behind team tactics also 100%.

Who would Rantanen push out? Lammikko or Pesonen?

One of Laine, Armia or Rantanen would probably have to play center :D

Well since it's now confirmed i would go with the same roster as Santeri here. Assuming Laine is good to go ofc.
Laine-Rantanen-Kakko
Ma.Granlund-Manninen-Hartikainen
Kapanen-Suomela-Armia
Lammikko-Björninen-Anttila
Pesonen, Sallinen

And my D lineup would be something like this:

Määttä - Lehtonen
Lindbohm - Pokka
Seppälä - Kemiläinen
Ohtamaa - Riikola

Top4 are locks and Kemiläinen is the best Vatanen replacement we have. No idea if they played together with Seppälä this season but stylistically it seems like a fit. Right now i have Ohtamaa - Riikola as bottom pair, but Matinpalo is a guy i could see challenging for a spot there if he continues his strong play. Granted i didn't see the 2nd Sweden game so don't know how he played in that one but the other practise games he was good.

I don't of course know what's the deal with Laine, but Rantanen and Kakko joining shouldn't at least decrease the odds of having Laine raring to go, too - like money, talent attracts talent. So if it is some relatively minor knock, and it will ultimately come down to Laine's own decision on whether he's willing to play with it or not, knowing who his linemates will be should help him nicely along with that decision.

---

Regarding our defense, right now the biggest question mark is who's gonna man the blueline on PP2. We have decent material for everything else.

Lehtonen is the obvious pick for the top unit, and of the present selection, Kemiläinen, Riikola and Koivisto fit that secondary bill. It's a shame about Saarijärvi, and likewise a shame that Vatanen couldn't join. And it'd be nice to know what was the deal with Välimäki, as he'd be exactly what the doctor ordered. He's of course a pipe dream at this stage, but there were some early reports about him expressing interest, and then nothing.

Wheres Välimäki? isn't he already agreed to join? also Seppälä will not make it, neither will Kemiläinen, nor Riikola for that matter

The hell we know. But he's not with the team, and was never confirmed to join.

So, barring an early exit for Dallas, the final eight will be picked out of the present camp roster. And, frankly, out of that group, Seppälä, Kemiläinen and Riikola are as likely to make it as some other names present.

That is actually dirty roster. Powerplay should also be massive threat with Laine and Mikko on both sides and both can score.

I would like to have seen Maccelli and Pärssinen in the team. Any idea if they were asked or why they declined? Also Välimäki and even Kupari (home town boy :)).

Why do you think Kemiläinen is good enough to join team Finland? or Riikola, for that matter.

Seppälä, sure, if theres no better, but somethings gone bad if Kemiläinen and Riikola are in.

Because I can do math. There are 11 d-men in the present camp roster, so three are going to get cut to get to eight. Of that selection, Lehtonen, Määttä and Lindbohm are locks. Pokka and Ohtamaa likely make it too as Jalonen familiars. The remaining six are Seppälä, Kemiläinen, Riikola, Koivisto, Friman and Matinpalo. And any three of those six may make it or may not, as there is no major distinction between them. In fact, Seppälä is probably the first out of those get picked. And what improves Kemiläinen and Riikola's chances is that we're a little short on puckmovers. Lehtonen is the only surefire name on that department.

Maybe Björninen could be a good 4th liner in NHL?

After Finland got the double last year, my thoughts were that Björninen would be the only one with potential to join Filppula for TGG. Not likely by any means, but if he got a minor role in a successful NHL team why not.
