Can they release it already. Seems like leijonat always announce their roster last of all nations for the WJC's.
Me every time I wait for leijonat to announce their roster when every nation already have lol

Pretty crazy that we probably only will have one or maybe two defenseman that will not be underage. Don't know who will stand in net but I know that he will need to play like Saros back in 2014 if we are going to have a chance.

Mikkola in press said around 10 players from North America will be on team.
Also current system allows 22+3=25 players in the tournee
I’m presuming Halttunen, Helenius, Hemming, Miettinen, Nurmi, Pieniniemi, Pikkarainen, Sinivuori, Uronen and Vaisanen are the 10?

Not sure if all of them and Pikkarainen should in no way get selected before others no matter if they are playing in Liiga or NA. At least 20 if not 25 forwards getting or should get selected before him.

I'll actually get really mad or disappointed if this (joke?) of a coach selects some no name forward playing in the NA before others like say Vesterinen, Hynninen and so on... Those guys are clear alternatives for the bottom6.

It's another thing to choose Muhonen, Nurmi and others that are even with some prospects playing in Europe just because they're already playing in smaller rinks and are a bit more adjusted to the faster game. But these guys will also be in the bottom6 or bottom pair amongst D's.
For an example, I can understand if Muhonen and Väisänen are a better fit than prospects like Kiukas, Nieminen and others for bottom pairings. Even if Kiukas numbers this year are quite impressive. And he will not go before Pieniniemi nor Kiviharju and the balance is always important.
I also hope that they have the guts to pick a player like Saarelainen before underperforming players from the NA. I mean Hemming has stepped up his production a little bit lately, but his numbers aren't nothing but a disappointment and he's not a fourth line winger. There I see all those options I mentioned above as better alternatives including Nurmi.

But yeah, if they pick or consider say Ruohonen, Sinivuori and Loponen as better fits than Ylitalo, Alasiurua or Huttu. Well, that's not controversial at least.

Edit: The 2006 born players are really deep for Finland with late bloomers such as Kuhta and others. Next year I wouldn't be surprised if all players are born 2006.

I like some of the decisions they made here. Like bringing Kangas who is a returning player that experience is important and picking Arttu Tuhkala who is a right handed shot (only one beside Soini) and he's also 19 which is always positive especially now when we got so many underage defensemen. I don't think I have any complaints with the roster.

Does Finland have a likely starter or is it probably a toss up between Rimpinen and Saarinen?
Rimpinen starts.

Vinni, Härkönen, Kiukas, Nykyri(Injured), Muhonen, Peltonen, Koivu, Pikkarainen, Kuusla, Ylitalo, Järventie, Huttu notable cuts...
Vinni isn't any-kind surprise to being out of U20 WJC's.
He was in back surgery this past summer and if the anonymous rumors are true
there was some step backs in recovery and that's why he hasn't played much this season

Wasn't Nykyri already ruled out due to injury?
Yes he's out next 2months

Actually satisfied with the selection. What about you? My predictions were pretty damn spot on so that's why I think I'm satisfied haha for once. Tuhkala before say Muhonen and Kiukas are a toss up and I don't believe the difference is that big perhaps. Even if Muhonen could've been an option for say PK. But he's also younger and I believe Tuhkala is the first one to lose his spot amongst the D's anyway.

My guess is Tuhkala, Alasiurua will be dropped later on if needed.

Yeah, Rimpinen probably starts after his (so far) great season. But his numbers in the national team has never been impressive. Let's not forget that Kokko was the clear number one last time and underperformed like hell. Even if those other to have been a lot worse in Liiga I actually believe all of them have decent potential and the possibility to reach NHL one. Perhaps as backups but still. Potential wise no worse than goalies like say Annunen and Kähkönen back in the days. So if someone underperforms I hope they have the guts to rotate.
Just like Jatkola one time earned his spot. We've had shaky goalies before when the coach has insisted far too long to give them the second and third opportunity in a short tournament. Thinking of Vehviläinen, perhaps Kokko and even if his numbers were better and the options far less I remember Aittokallio being really shaky.
At least Jalonen woke up late but in time regarding Vehviläinen-Kähkönen.
I think this will be important from the coach, staying active and really picking the hottest goalie.
