WJC: Team Finland 2019 U20 WJC Roster Talk

no point to send Kotka when he is playing top line minute in Montreal. Learns more with 12 minutes + in NHL than full minute with juniors.


It was said by montreal, the media and the direction that as long as kotka play 12 minutes and more in the NHL he won'T participate at the juniors

Yeah if they get someone, they need to drop someone out. So if someone comes, he is a lock. I don't think this is our final team.

It's annoying that we haven't heard anything yet but I think someone is coming. Feels like it.

The first training game will be played on Wednesday (19th) and the second one the day before Christmas eve (23th). Denmark and Canada are the opponents. The final roster will be revealed on Christmas eve. I assume that Ahokas wants an answer about Vesalainen,Tolvanen and Jokiharju before the Denmark game. Or before we meet Canada.
 
According to unofficial information Niklas Nordgren has got head injury
( probably concussion) tonight's SM liiga game vs Ilves.
Nordgren's participation to U20 WJC's is threatened.

Also Anton Lundell is putted injured reserve by HIFK and his status is day to day
Lundell bumped his head to the board last weeks liiga game vs Sport when Tommi Tikka hit him straight to back near the boards.

Lundell went to locker room but he returned back to game.
And played normally rest of sport game and last saturday's liiga game vs Kärpät.

This week Lundell hasn't played at all.
Before the mass panic about these ''injuries'' lets wait official information.

If he got a concussion last night they also may not have wanted him on a long international flight like that the day after. Not exactly the greatest idea for a quick recovery.

If / when that injury what Nordgren got in Ilves game really is concussion
it would be extremely irresponsible to even consider allow him play to U20 WJC's.

If i was HIFK's team doctor I would not allow him to participate in the whole tournament.
Now it's better let Nordgren recover so long as he needs.

And let him come back to HIFK's games sometimes in Januray or February.
Nordgren can play U20 WJC's next year ( 2020)

If Nordgren won't participate who will take his spot? Nordgren would probably play with Kaako on the second line. Jesse Ylönen maybe? He scored two goals tonight by the way.
Ylönen-Lundell-Kaako?
Kaako played his second game straight as an centerman and did well. He might actually play center in the tournament. Any news on Lundell?

Patrik Puistola
Matias Maccelli ( USHL player)
Marcus Kallionkieli ( USHL player)
Lauri Pajuniemi

And of course Eeli Tolvanen and Kristian Vesalainen.
Nothing new about Anton Lundell still day to day.

Pajuniemi should get the chance, I don't understand why he isn't in already.
 
Is UPL the de facto #1 goalie?

If so, I might even root for Finland over Canada, but that's the only way.
 
Just saw the Vesalainen news.

Man this team is going to miss some talent this year, frustrating to watch.

Players? So Tolvanen and Jokiharju? Vaakanainen would be huge too since the left side only has underagers on defense at the moment.
 
Weird to see player decline to join. I mean other than injury pileups like Saarela 2 years back and NHL call up hopes I dont remember anyone declining to play at WJC in recent history with no apparent pressing reason.
