This game is such a mess

Fanning on a pass in the neutral zone to allow a 2 on 0 followed by the referee tripping the defenseman trying to turn it the other way to allow an empty net goal…junior hockey is just more fun.

Canada is effectively just Connor Bedard and Reid Dyck right now. Everyone else ranges from completely unnoticeable to downright disaster.

Lots of unforced turnovers for Canada. Bedard of course so fun to watch. I’d play him 25 minutes :D

The U.S and their very own Soviet style system of development and tournament winning.

What can you say? it sure brings results

Socialism you say. My God no! Seems to be the way hockey is going. High priced Hockey Academies for those that can afford it. Can't imagine too many CHL owners would want a National Team program in Canada. I think we will see more top quality Canadian prospects move to the USA.

We can’t forget the fact that the States play together all year round but man are they ever dominating us

That's what we are going to and that is what we are seeing in this tournament. Big money took the game away, unfortunately it couldn't be stopped.

What the U.S has done is just Soviet Unioned it, who would have thought that 30-40 years ago?

Yes money will make all the difference. Why wouldn't you go to an American prep school, academy or the USHL to allow you to play in the NCAA. What parent wouldn't want that especially if you get a free ride. We're seeing more and more dual citizens play for the USA as well. Sons of hockey players who can afford these things. Hockey has changed before our very eyes.

The result of this game was a no brainer. Hope the guys don't feel too badly, regroup and come out firing the next game.

As Button said about 35 times tonight - this is the USNTDP’s Stanley Cup. They sure ran us into the ground but we really killed ourselves with highly unnecessary turnovers, which is what happens when you have a bunch of teenagers who have never played together before. This is a good first game to show the boys what won’t work, and I’m looking forward to watching them try to get into the medal rounds.

We saw last year what happens when we actually have all our players, even despite the US’s advantage in chemistry and familiar systems.

Not to mention that the result of the NHL pumping money into non-traditional markets in the US for the last two decades means the States actually have the most people playing hockey in the world by a good margin (30% more, according to the IIHF’s numbers of registered ice hockey players), despite how much Americans love to say they do not care about the game whenever they lose. The fact Canada has continued to dominate at the best-on-best level and the top rounds of the draft, despite a steady shift in overall player numbers in the NHL, goes to show we’re just better ;) (more realistically, the CHL remains the best path to developing elite talent).

We will meet up again I hope in the playoffs. The importance will be to develop chemistry between the players. Yes , this is the American stanley cup , see what happens in the Ivan helinka/ Gretzky cup when team Canada get to practice for a long period of time. We dominate also. The same way Americans dominate the u18. Canada has a b team at the u18 and USA has a b team at the helinka tournament. We dominate helinka

This team relies way too much on the west coast kids. What was Goyette doing on the third line and on the wing when you had Howe on the first and not bringing anything at all for the whole game. The kid hardly belongs on that team and he’s ont the first ? Lorenz can’t foliow the pace Shurmann too slow, Ward didn’t win a single face off. Fantilli was very good kept trying things at least. Coach needs to reevaluate his assets starting tomorrow. Is the coach only there to push his 05’s ??? Terrible if you ask me. On defence Morden isn’t able to play at that pace either. Let’s hope he looks better against Germany…

Thought we actually looked good individually, lots of talent. Liked Fantili, Pickering, Bedard (obviously), #4 on D.

Give them some time and they’ll mesh a lot better.

I actually thought Fantili was the second most noticeable forward after Bedard.

Overall, the team was pretty awful. Particularly the defense.

Bedard is th best offensive goal scoring player I have seen at this age. His ability to create and score from basically anywhere on the ice is incredible. His forecheck is ferocious and his offensive IQ is off the charts.

People may not like this part, but defensively he is below average. He honestly looks like he doesn't care at all on the back check and in his own end until someone on his own team gets the puck.

I think Fantilli was noticeable for a few reasons. First of all, everyone is watching for him so you key in on him when he is on the ice. He was noticeable also because he looks 30 years old playing at the U18's. On the plus side he was noticeable as his skating really stands out and he has the creativity and moxie to try things. Unfortunately, he was also noticeable as he turned the puck over in the grey areas multiple times.

All due respect, you guys looked really bad. May be in for a rough tournament, but with the Russians out I feel like it’s a lot easier for everyone this year. There are only four real contenders. Possible the important games go your way and then you’re winning the tournament with a weak team. Can happen, but I see a lot of passengers on this Canadian team and it’s usually a lot of drivers.

On the bright side, I thought the goalie did well. Once the game got out of hand, he let in too many, but those weren’t easy saves and he kept it close when it was a real contest. He could be big for Canada in this tournament.
