WC: TEAM CANADA 2023

I almost wonder if there is some remaining ill will (maybe too strong a word, but you know what I mean) between Yzerman and St. Louis from when Yzerman initially passed on him for the 2014 Olympic team. St. Louis eventually got on the team and got his gold medal, but the relationship seemed a little bruised afterwards. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw that Yzerman was named GM of this year's team.
I expect that there is still some soreness. There were media reports of St. Louis still being pissy even after Canada won the gold medal in 2014. I understand where St. Louis was coming from in terms of being pissed after how ell he played in the NHL in 2010 and 2014, but the way he handled it looked bad on him. That's probably the edge that helped him succeed so much in the NHL though.

I don’t really follow this tournament so I have a very little understanding of the roster development but I think this would make a pretty cool roster. This is if Pittsburgh misses the playoffs.

If there’s no Sidney Crosby then substitute him out for Carter Verhaeghe.

WHL announcer said Bedard will not play for Canada at the World Championships but then immediately hedged that maybe he'd re-consider. So not sure what's going on there.

Only thing I can think about is if someone asked him and he said something to the effect of "I'm not even gonna think about that" as he was focusing on the Game 7 before him. This was said as time was expiring, so it's not as though he had given some official word now that his team was eliminated.

With how my Canes are playing lately, they will be an early 1st round exit. Seth Jarvis I would bet would go to the World Championships if asked.

Chabot and Chychrun are both injured. Neither played for the sens down the stretch when they were in a playoff race. I can't imagine they're gonna play WHC.

Kristopher Letang never played for Canada at senior event. He really should play at this year IIHF WC. Crosby and Letang should both go and try to win something together. I won't understand Letang refusal.

I don't find this to be a bad team at all. If finland could win with some of the no name rosters they've iced no reason we can't win with this.

Don't forget Team Canada 2021 Gold medal winners. They were a pretty ragtag bunch of D-listers. Decent coaching and players being motivated are the key ingredients to a successful Skodas. Of course I'd love to see a bunch of A-listers accept invites who are properly coached and highly motivated to win. But, as the old Meatloaf adage goes, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

100% you nailed it, those are the real key ingredients to winning this tournament.

Speaking of A-listers I wonder if Crosby would agree to go one more time this year now with the pens out? He's not going to be winning any more cups in Pittsburgh by the looks of it so maybe a chance for him to win something here before he closes out his career?

It was bizarre to talk about his career coming to a close there, it seems like only last week I was reading about his exploits with the Dartmouth Subways and now I realize he won't be playing hockey for much longer. Man, time truly does fly.

Crosby + Bedard.. make it happen Canada!
It's kind of amazing how infrequently the biggest Canadian forward talents played together. In the last 50 years the Canadian players who would generally be considered the generational talents to debut in the NHL are Gretzky, Lemieux, Lindros (I know about the injuries but it is what it is), Crosby, and McDavid. Roughly one every ten years.

Gretzky and Lemieux: 1987 Canada Cup
Gretzky and Lindros: 1991 Canada Cup, 1996 Canada Cup, 1998 Olympics
Lemieux and Lindros: 2002 Olympics

Crosby and McDavid have never played with one of the other generational players. 1987 Canada Cup is the only time that two of those talents (to be fair, the best of the five) played together with each in his prime. Bedard seems like he could be one of those guys, we'll see. But he may not get many chances to even play with McDavid.

I really want to see it.. think it'd be something we talk abut for years!

Crosby and McDavid should have played together three times by now, even with the opportunities lost to covid. We'll see about Bedard with the others. I don't think that he or Crosby will play at this tournament but I'd be happy to be incorrect.

I'll be surprised if even one of them end up there to be honest CB.
I agree.. but I really want to see it and it's available! You get those 2 and a few more guys might show up.. could recreate that 2015 juggernaut!
