My personal feeling of what his floor and ceiling project to be vs the other prospects in our systemBased on...?
Not sure you're quite up to date with their depth chart. With an already young defense corps at the NHL level and prospects like Bouchard, Samorukov, Jones and Bear currently emerging, the likelihood of them reaching for a defenseman at #8 is literally 0%.Agreed. Edmonton will steer clear of NCAA commits for this reason.
Think they go Broberg or Soderstrom.
I'm not going to pretend I know more about Edmonton's prospect pool (I don't) than a supporter of the team. That being said, do any of those defensive prospects you listed have top pairing potential? Broberg and Soderstrom sure do if they hit their respective ceilings. Not sure you're quite up to date with their depth chart. Both Bouchard and Samorukov at this point possess top pairing potential. Samorukov likely the one closer to being NHL-ready. Klefbom, as it stands, is a young, reliable top pairing defender himself.I'm not going to pretend I know more about Edmonton's prospect pool (I don't) than a supporter of the team. As mentioned, I don't see Edmonton taking an NCAA bound kid. Cozens or Dach (or Podkolzin if you're ok waiting for two years) should be your targets.
I wondered aloud in another thread if Edmonton would trade up to get Cozens or Dach. What do you think?
you realize that 95% of lists have him as a 2nd/3rd rounder, right? I know you’re in love with him but most people don’t have him in this range.Where is Rees???

All very fair points. Bouchard can go either way. Samorukov I don't know anything about honestly. Both Bouchard and Samorukov at this point possess top pairing potential. Samorukov likely the one closer to being NHL-ready. Klefbom, as it stands, is a young, reliable top pairing defender himself.
I don't see why the Oilers would shy away from selecting a US-college commit. Especially when anyone at that stage of the draft only plays a single year there before turning pro. Personally I wouldn't shy away from Podkolzin at #8, but I understand the reluctance from others.
In regards to moving up, I think it'd actually be more likely for them to trade back. I have an inkling that they're quite high on Philip Tomasino along with myself. I don't see that significant of a gap in terms of upside between him and the players likely available at the Oilers' draft position. Odds are that anyone taken at #8 isn't going to be fully NHL ready for two seasons anyways.
He really had a dogshit playoffs for Sarnia, but I agree with you that he should be higher. He's had a few weird injuries with the lacerated kidney, but he still produced a lot every time he was in the lineup this year for the Sting. He's a really aggressive puckhound, and almost gives me Hagelin vibes with how he's just relentless on the puck. He has some nifty hands too, and I remember seeing a play earlier in the year that highlighted how he can use that aggressiveness to counter on teams quickly. This is why I am so surprise!!!
Seriously though, I think he is that low for -- all -- the wrong reasons....
Leading the Guelph Storm blueline currently at the Memorial Cup. He and Nick Suzuki are playing out of their minds in the postseason. All very fair points. Bouchard can go either way. Samorukov I don't know anything about honestly.

Junior hockey at the highest level. Where do you think these prospects come from?I think that speaks volumes of the quality of those games.

I think you might have your Suzuki’s mixed upWhy would it be the highest level? It’s like way below the WJC and so forth. When Suzuki played at the U18s he couldn’t keep up, he wasn’t talented enough. We call out Podkolzin, he was more or less dominating every game but struggled to produce. He was heads and shoulders and waist above Suzuki there, and then some.
These teams have drafts etc too, it’s not all-star teams. The talent in the CHL is spread out over what 60 clubs?

If the Canadiens pass up on a talented French-Canadian player like Lavoie then anything is possible. There’s no way the Oilers draft an American college player.
Have that funny feeling as wellAlthough I do not believe we pick with 20
If the Sens like him it’s gonna require overpayment probably same or more than what we gave them to move up for MillerIf Seider is there at 19 we should be trading up to get him.
