Yeah, Canes Twitter has been all over the place tonight. They went through all the stages of grief re:the Staal news, then got hit with the TDA news and now believe it somehow means we won’t be re-signing Pesce, which ignited another drama fire.

I wonder at what point in one’s fandom does one gain the ability to just…chill…? Like, I don’t agree with all the decisions the Borg has made over the past few years, and I‘m sure they’re going to make at least one I’ll disagree with sometime this offseason.

But it’s not like I have any influence over their decisions, and frankly, they’ve more than proven over the past few years that they know what they’re doing. So having a personal crisis over every move seems…exhausting for one, and completely unwarranted for another.

Doubt it, really. The fight was had in 2020, and he didn't live up to the hype, in a good way. Yeah, there will be a few diehards, but whatevs.
I hope you’re right, some of the reactions last night don’t have me inspired for the discourse today, but I guess we shall see how it plays out

It’s gonna be an interesting day on Canes twitter
The amount of Deangelo Derangement Syndrome on there is epic. People twisting themselves into a pretzel trying to convince themselves he didn't have a good season here. And alternately raving about how Raleigh is a "racist city", hahaha, like do you even know who controls all the cities nowadays?

Yeah man, I don’t understand hating the move just cause it’s Tony D again. He was overall a solid player for us, and 1 year at 2.5 for a 3rd pairing D who can quarterback one of the PP units actually sounds like a pretty decent deal to me. And as others have said, we shouldn’t have too much of a problem upgrading that slot at the deadline if we need to.

And Im pretty much at the point where I have no time for people who call us racist and threaten to cancel their season tickets over this, it’s exhausting.

Tony was basically a model citizen under RBA. Kept his nose clean and his mouth shut, and there's no reason to think he won't do exactly that again. That's all you can ask.

People who are mad on social media are always gonna be mad on social media, because that's basically all they've got going for themselves. It doesn't make them relevant, no matter what they may think.

Seriously, has he been involved in any controversy since we signed him the first time around? I haven’t heard anything about him aside from his struggles in Philly.

People can change but some can’t let it go. There’s posters on hf talking like they know the guy personally

The only thing that temporarily drew a red flag was when TonyD took a "leave of absence" from the Flyers early on in his time there, and everyone assumed it was a negative thing.

Then it came out that his grandmother (I believe) had passed and everyone felt like an ass.

I didn’t miss the use of DeAngelo as a proxy for a political debate. The people that dislike him for his opinions are annoying. So too are those that dislike the people that dislike him for his opinions.

It’s okay to be one side and like the player. It’s okay to be on the other and criticize the player. Stick to sports, as the saying should go.

A quick look at Twitter this morning shows they're already there. Comment after comment crying about it, threatening the front office with canceling season tickets, etc.
Comical reactions.

Also, as others have said, there really hasn't been any problems with TDA since we signed him. People need to move on already for his opinions. He's focused on playing hockey, and I'm sure his respect of Rod will again make things great here.

Bunch of crap got deleted from the main board thread. One habs fan in particular had some pretty funny takes.

Apparently TDA is a massive racist and it’s no surprise the canes would want to employ him.

Raleigh is full of transplants from the Northeast corridor. If Raleigh is a “racist city”, it’s because of them. I wonder where Tony D was born. Everyone is an expert on Twitter.

To be fair, I believe TonyD's father has outed himself as very much a bigot and claimed that it was just the way it was in his part of Philly. And given TonyD's checkered past, it's not a stretch to assume that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

But ultimately, it's about two things: His play on the ice and whether he'll be a distraction in the locker room. If we shelter him, his play on the ice should be serviceable. And whether he'll be a distraction is anyone's guess

I have no doubt the borg consulted with Rod and probably some players as to any distraction issues if bringing him back.
