Where are all those people that get annoyed with all the trade rumors? No where to be found when things actually happen but love to complain that insiders are just throwing shjt at the wall. More rumors plz.

I think everyone can understand that the lightning are in a win now mode, and that they get 3 cup runs at a favorable rate with Hagel, but IMO this would have been a good enough framework to send to Vancouver for JT Miller @ 50% retention. I am not sure there is anyway Vancouver says no to that haul, and if they did, it would only require minor tweaking IMO, especially in terms of money in/out. They would have got 2 playoff runs of a substantially better player as opposed to 3 playoff runs of a player who is good but not great. I just don't really understand it TBH.

TB can do whatever they want, they have the success to justify anything at this point. All I'm saying is they paid a superstar level price for a non-superstar. I can't be alone in thinking this right?? They absolutely could have gotten a better player out of that package right??

someone help me out

Zero chance Vancouver takes 2 late 1st’s and retains 50% on Miller. Throw that up as a proposal and see what the fan base says about it. I hate the Canucks and I say they laugh at it.

People on here really ignoring where those 1st likely land. Or least where they are expected to land at this moment.

I guess Tampa can afford to do that kind of a trade when you have two cups in your back pocket, but its a very steep price to pay for basically a 3rd line player! I think the Hawks did very well here!

So.... what are the chances the Blackhawks turn around and offer some or all of this package to the Arizona Coyotes for Chychrun?

Hagel is also fairly young at 23. And he'll still be an RFA at the end of his current contract - which is also a really friendly contract. I get that TBL is going all in, but it's far easier to give up assets for players who are young and will have plenty of team control left.

And that's not a knock on Miller. I'd love to find a way to add JT Miller to the Pens. I just don't think it can be done at a price that makes sense for PIT.

Do they really have to go all in tho? Aren't they already in?
They’re going for the 3-peat, which hasn’t been done since the Islanders dynasty. It’s going to be tough with all the wear and tear and fatigue, so yeah I’d say they have to do everything they can. And they are.

This seems like a lot of quantity over quality. As a Hawks fan, I'm not sure they got enough.
They basiclly got what Tampa gave for Coleman and Goodrow... combined. That's a solid high value.

The devils getting Foote is better despite him doing nothing so far, he's still 21 and their pick was 20, but either next season or season after having a 1st round exit with a CBJ surprise win could make the pick low 20s.

This is for a guy you thought was just a lame grinder prospect a year ago.

Not a fan of the trade for Tampa IMO. When I think of Tampa with or without Hagel on their team it really doesn't move the needle in terms of making Tampa a scarier team IMO. Chicago sold high on their asset, great deal for them.

Hagel has a 1.5 cap hit until 2024. That's why the Bolts opened their wallets.
Yes. You can’t compare him to an soon to be unsigned RFA with arbitration rights like Crouse or or rental like Copp or Miller at 5.25m.

Brisebois has shown he’s willing to outbid everyone in a big way for high performing forwards on great value deals because of the cap constraints the Bolts have.

He wants to try to keep his RFAs without losing forward depth.

All I know is that if TB wins a 3rd Cup in a row they're in discussion for one of the best dynasties in hockey history and the best franchise the past 30 years or so.

If five to seven years from now they have to rebuild I don't think their ownership or fanbase is going to care if they have a Kraken-like season or three.

Exactly.

Not to sound pretentious, but fans of teams that haven't won a cup in a while have a very different mindset than fans of teams that have won a cup or more in a short period. Suddenly it's not about climbing the mountain, it's about planting a flag and claiming that mountain for yourself. It's about setting a historical standard for an era. If you have a chance to distance yourself as the pre-imminent hockey power for the cap era in the history books, you are happy to pay a premium to increase your odds to do so.
