I think everyone can understand that the lightning are in a win now mode, and that they get 3 cup runs at a favorable rate with Hagel, but IMO this would have been a good enough framework to send to Vancouver for JT Miller @ 50% retention. I am not sure there is anyway Vancouver says no to that haul, and if they did, it would only require minor tweaking IMO, especially in terms of money in/out. They would have got 2 playoff runs of a substantially better player as opposed to 3 playoff runs of a player who is good but not great. I just don't really understand it TBH.

TB can do whatever they want, they have the success to justify anything at this point. All I'm saying is they paid a superstar level price for a non-superstar. I can't be alone in thinking this right?? They absolutely could have gotten a better player out of that package right??

Hell no.

LOL

Miller for two late firsts?

Have to respect Tampa. When they want something they do all they can to get it. Solid deal for the Hawks aswell.

I have to respect Florida as well. They are learning from the Tampa Bay model right now also. It’s funny both states hockey teams are nose to the grinding stone of getting the players they want at any expense necessary. I really enjoy this deadline so far 😂

Huh? Miller for 2 late first and 2 fringe NHL'ers? You're joking right?

Tampa would still have to clear out money to make it work, so no, this wouldn't work

Really good return for the Hawks. Didn’t think they would actually part with Hagel. But with that many chances at a replacement as well as helping round out their depth that’s a really good haul. Always liked Katchouk and Raddysh.

It's a good package for Hagel - it is not for JT Miller.

Miller would require a significant piece back in a trade, which this package doesn't have. It's just a quantity package. A player like Miller would return quality.

Agreed. And in Which Boston and Toronto admit defeat if they don’t make a move? This deadline is drying up super super fast with availability of players. You would imagine Boston, Toronto are sweating heavily right now knowing Florida and Tampa are all in and will do anything necessary to win that cup. That division is going to be very difficult to get out of
As a Toronto fan, and self proclaimed realist. I honestly didn't like our chances this year before any of the deals happened anyways. I know FLA and TB improved, but we were always going to be an underdog in a series against them anyways. IMO, I hope we keep our picks, make minimal upgrades at defense. As in bring in bigger tougher players like Middleton/Schenn and then take our shot as an underdog. Lots has been made of the tending, I'll again roll the dice on our all-star goalie returning to form.

That all said, Another R1 exit is a very realistic possibility. But I don't think we'd be in any better shape with 1-2 more "big splash" deals. May as well embrace the underdog role at this point, save your picks and roll the dice. It's hardly like Toronto is an easy out for whoever has to play us.

Toronto not an easy out???
***Insert the R1 exit jokes***
HA HA we all laughed, lets move on

History aside, Toronto is still a good team as is. Flawed in ways, but many teams in the playoffs are. MTL was flawed last year, and they still made it to the finals. Anything can happen, including the Leafs winning a playoff series.

I cannot speak for Boston fans, but if I were them I'd probably do the same. Minor upgrades, roll the dice.

Atlantic will take some luck to get out of this year anyway. All 4 teams that make it are very good.

People thinking the Bolts overpaid need to understand that this is what it looks like when you are trying to win a cup. Gotta give to get.

This seems like a lot of quantity over quality. As a Hawks fan, I'm not sure they got enough.

Insanity. This is fantastic return.
