So the Canes are losing Guentzel, Necas, Pesce, TT, and Skjei so they can * checks notes * resign Seth Jarvis? What a disaster of an off season for a former cup contender.

They have upwards of $28 mil to spend and they will. Other players are coming in. Tomorrow will be interesting.

How do you fix it? If you allow for tax related variability in AAV, do you then have to allow for COL variability as well? Cost of insurance? Other fixed costs beyond player or league control?

Agreed. The cap is supposed to balance the share of pre-tax revenue between the owners and players. How that revenue gets taxed is extraneous. The disadvantage is shared across all industries.

If you try to share revenue evenly on an after-tax basis the calculation gets extremely complicated.

Probably the last rental you will see Carolina pick up for a while.

Gave up Bunting, Koivunen, Lucius, Ponomarev and picks to the Pens. Ended up with a 2nd round playoff exit and a 3rd round draft pick. <shrug>

Its just the age thing with Guentzel vs Stamkos?

Well, that is how taxes work for the normal person.
State taxes are NEVER going to be 18% of your salary (1.5m out of 8.5 in the quote) no matter what state you live in, so no lol. For many states it's like 5% or less....

Federal taxes, which every state pays, are typically more than 75% of the total taxes you pay. This is really simple stuff.

You people literally just post whatever and act like you can't possibly be wrong.

Not a fan of this trade. JG now has a 24 hour gun to the head of the Bolts, knowing that he can name his price and if Tampa doesn’t meet it, they will look like idiots- idiots without a third rounder next draft.

3rd seems really steep this late in the game. Should have happened a week ago or been a 5th round pick.

Great trades for Tampa, bad news for divisional rivals. Getting rid of one leg corpse of buccaneer Sergachev is addition by subtraction, plus getting stud D and awesome prospect. Then adding smart forward Guentzel and not resigning aging stammer, that’s a master class, summer of pierre is overshadowed by brisebois mordor like brilliant brutal tactics.

I think the negotiating was done before the trade, and we may find out soon that so was the signing. Hence the price.
That's fair. I figure it's a steep price if you only have 24 hours to negotiate. And it's not like Tampa can give him 8 years either.
