That doesn't answer his question. I agree with Warden. This proposal isn't necessary- the Isles can just keep Tavares.

dude.

The guy is a UFA in 2 years. If he wants to be a Leaf long term, he can. Tavares isn't worth Matthews in a Leafs trade. Don't be ridiculous.

What are you "dude"ing me for? I quoted his post. Whatever showed up in the quoted box showed up. I know what he said. He quoted me 5 times and none of it was relevant.

You want to talk about Tavares or you want to be petty? Point remains that Leafs will never trade Matthews alone for Tavares as of now. Ya may as well just deal with it.

leafs probably laugh at the thought of moving an 18 year old and 19 year old for Tavares who is about to make 10-12mil per.

JT to TO needs to stop. leafs are more than happy with Matthews,Nylander, and Kadri up the middle. We arent dumping our top prospects for anyone not named mcdavid

Tavares has never been one of those grasping players, trying to squeeze every dollar out of his team.
He showed that when he took a reasonable deal that averaged $5.5m per on his last contract, telling the press he signed 10 months before his contract expired because he did not want his contract to be a locker room distraction.

Isles owners don't seem to be concerned about having to write Tavares a huge check. Maybe message board fans ,should quit worrying about the isles having to pay JT:sarcasm:

for what? please tell me what tavares has done that warrants such a pay day........

i think maybe you should tell me why he doesnt deserve such a pay day because 9/10 posters probably think he deserves 9-10m

you answer my question, and then ill answer yours.
you just dropped from 10 to 12 million per year to 9 to 10 million per year. lowering your price already?

i never said 12 million, i said 10. 9 is 1 mil less than 10.

was that so hard?

and again i think its pretty easy to see why he deserves 9-10m if youve ever watched him which leads me to ask why he doesnt desrve it

lads me to think youve watched him like 10 times

He's going anywhere this year. That being said if we get into next season and they can't get a deal done I could see him signing in Toronto or the Leafs trading for him in advance. Assuming Toronto does a good job rebuilding and showing promise in that time frame.

we'll sign him in 2018 as a ufa
In 2018, Toronto Maple Leaf's centers:

Stamkos
McDavid (they'll offersheet him and Edmonton will obviously not match, because nobody ****s with the big bad Toronta Maple Leafs.)
Tavares

Hoooooooooooooooooooooooo boy. Talk about a dynasty. They'll win more cups than the Montreal Canadiens. They'll change the Stanley Cup's name to the Toronta Cup. Welcome to purgatory, everybody that isn't a Leaf fan.

They'll transition Matthews to wing, naturally. I miss having the edit function.

Do I get a medal for reading this entire damn thread?

New York should not trade Tavares right now, it'd be silly. Trading Tavares for futures (which is really all Toronto has to offer right now) doesn't help them one bit now, and those futures aren't certain to be anything. Matthews could be the next Stefan and we'd never know it right now. It's really hard to judge a player's future a mere month after the draft. I believe HF gave Nail Yakupov a 9 after the draft. I'm sure guys like Stefan and Daigle were highly touted at the time they were drafted. (Stefan, like Matthews, had just had a very solid season in a decent men's league, while Daigle had just destroyed the QMJHL)

On the flipside, Toronto should have absolutely no interest in Tavares. I'll be very surprised if Tavares makes it anywhere close to free agency, and what Toronto would have to give up to entice Garth Snow to move his franchise center in a trade would absolutely gut the franchise and reset the rebuild back to square one. Matthews, for what we know right now, is an excellent prospect who long-term can fill Toronto's need for a franchise center. There's no reason for Toronto to swap Matthews++++++++ for Tavares right now. Stay the course with the rebuild, be patient, and reap the benefits in a couple years.

He's 25 years old and two seasons ago finished one point behind the Art Ross winner?

Not to mention I believe he's a two time Hart finalist. I can count the players in the league on one hand I'd want to build around before JT.

Correct. The Isles and the Leafs are both in a great spot. The Isles have in Tavares their cornerstone who could potentially (if he isn't already) be their greatest player since the dynasty days of Trottier, Bossy and Potvin when all is said and done. The Leafs have their potential cornerstone, and are perfectly happy to take that chance to see if he pans out. Both sides are happy with their own situation, so this proposal really is moot.

If you think that is an essay, you clearly never went to college, or your professors would have kicked you out of there pretty damn fast...

I never said it was well-written, but it certainly was longer than needed to get your point across, to the point of ruining your own joke.

Thank you for evaluating my essay, Professor Baystreetbully. So I guess I don't get a 90?

Sorry to disappoint you, but it isn't a joke. It's destiny that the Toronta Maple Leafs create a dynasty around Stammer, McDavid, and Tavares, and they blow the NHL apart. I thought you of all fanboys would be cheering through the streets. Ah well, guess some people are a bit slow.
