The salt two days later is flowing heavy enough to let my great aunt make enough salt beef to last a hundred winters.
First of all, us - Were gonna sign Marner for 8.5, bridge Willy at less than 5 and give Matthews 11...which will be possible by letting go of Jake (not that he's bad but it's time to move on), Martin (today or tomorrow I think), Hainsey walking and trading Marleau next year back to the Sharks after we pay his bonus. Liljegren will be a full time player in one year's time. Other teams will continue to be salty.
Islanders - I've spoken my piece
before. Tavares owes you nothing, blame your inept management for failing to surround him with talent (could have had Nylander or Ehlers but you took Dal Colle. Could have had Mantha but you took Pulock. Could have had Lindholm, Rielly or Trouba but you took Reinhart) and really, 'he said he wanted to stay with us for life!' What's he supposed to say in that situation? 'This place sucks, you're all ugly and stupid and I hate it'? If you want loyalty get a dog. You had him at 5.5 for what, six years and couldn't do anything? Have faith that you had a good draft this year, and Barzal is a hell of an offensive talent who spells defense with a Q.
Montreal - Bergevin, the genius, used a 3rd overall pick drafting for need and not taking Hughes or Zadina like a normal person would. Even if they luck into a first overall in the next three years and call it a hunch I think they will, with Price making 10.5 and Weber already losing steps and paid until like '24-'25, they'll be our toilet for at least the next 4 years. The Mason trade was good, maybe could have sweetened it for better picks though.
Ottawa - Has their own issues to deal with, but hopefully they learn from the Islanders and trade Karlsson for something like two firsts, a young second liner with upside and a near ready impact prospect now. The clock is ticking. Also no, no one wants Bobby Ryan.
Buffalo - Is rightly nonplussed having just landed Dahlin, but if they wanna ball they better hope Mittelstadt and Nylander become players.
Tampa - Realizes they're now only slightly better than us on paper with a cap situation twice as nightmarish looming - seriously what do they do, next year, when they need to give Kucherov 10, Point 6, Gourde at least 3.5 and Sergachev 4? I also assume they'll keep Stralman (who I think would fit perfectly here), there's another 4.5. They have 4.4 in space today, Coburn and Girardi (6.7 combined) and a bunch of low money guys like Anderoff coming off next year, and even if they move Callahan (5.8) it's still not enough.
Boston - You were a fluffer.
Florida and Detroit - Don't seem to care much.
San Jose - If Couture, Burns and Pavelski were all five years younger I could have seen JT signing there.
Vancouver - Benning doing Benning things with the Roussel and Beagle deals, when Horvat-Petersson-Boeser is like a half price version of MNM.
Edmonton - Anticipating Draisaitl++ for Karlsson if he would go there, not that Karlsson isn't great but that's cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Winnipeg - They have the same playoff trophy as we do for not winning the cup this year.
Rangers - You are welcome.
St Louis - Did very well adding RoR and Bozak to their weak centre depth. With Tank, Schwartz, Schenn, Petro and Parayko (I'll take one of either of those), they're a dark horse cup pick, get on the horn with Vegas today while odds are still low.
