Well i will let you all know about my day but i got pictures too. i was horrified about the gramps thing on my cruiser after jays game but when i got close i figured it out. i guess you guys are a bigger thing than i realized. you guys are all beauties. is it hockeys finest hf boards by the way? i had to explain myself. i guess i should not have mentioned my summer car.

Gramps, this part has me a bit confused. Did some posters from our board spot your car and leave a note on it?

Do tell. I'm very intrigued!

When (then general manager) Garth Snow said he wouldn’t trade me, I respected that and I didn’t ask to be traded.

This is what makes the media in this country suck so bad. Listening to the interview, JT didn’t say “Snow said he wouldn’t trade me” rather he said “Snow said he wasn’t going to trade me” big difference in the transcript and what was said. What a sh** job.

How does Tavares's $11 mm cap hit compare to Stamkos's $8.5 mm hit? While Stamkos signed the contract 2 years ago, what is the justification of the $2.5 mm discrepancy between the two, given that they're about the same tier of player.

Not sure but what I noticed about Stamkos these past playoffs was that he's a one dimensional player who pretty much only scored on the power play.

7 playoff goals with 6 coming via the PP.
16 playoff points with 12 coming via the PP.

At $8.5M/per, I'd expect a lot more from him.

Injury time? That plus the ~8M difference in the cap ceiling probably evens them out.

Stammer took a ridiculously team friendly deal pre-expansion

Does anyone know if the Islanders reached out to Tavares after July 1, 2017 to negotiate a new contract?

Wouldn't worry about it. Some people are weird and say stuff that doesn't make sense. All good

Not worried at all...just pointing out how ridiculous his comments were. Is he also planning on going to a special needs school afterwards to write out, then finish, the timetables on the chalkboard in front of everybody?

The Isles thread on JT has descended into chaos. Accusations of racism, mental illness/deficiency, character assassination on and on and on.

I'm sure they're very hurt. Tavares was their best player for every year he was on the team. That's how UFA's work though, they get to choose where to go.

I guess they didnt see his interviews. Brought up isles he was holding back tears.

Though for me I think JT did this...intended on going to Isled..thought about and watched leafs in playoffs..recalled how they were to play against. Thought about his upcoming wedding, starting a family. So decided to let leafs (and a 4 team smoke screen setup by CAA) to pick and question shanny dubas and Mike. He then realised the timing was too perfect, he be an instant hero if he brought us the cup..and already knew isles were far enough out he would be out of his prime.

There was one interview he fumbled his words. When asked when he decided..he said the.. um ugh late Friday. The was another fumble but forget what he said and the exact question but pertained to how close we are vs isles for cup.

Anyway I do feel bad for them. Its would be identical to if we lost Matthews. Who could technically one up Tavares and go ufa after elc and not sign for 9yrs...this I highly doubt because JT admitted to asking Kyle how he planned on keeping our core and Matthew's esp being a center is #1 priority then Marner then Nylander in order of skill

Is that the same *****er that asked Tavares what he'd like to say to the fans, even though he'd already posted a public address to the fans on all of his social media stuff? What a dick move that was.

"Still, the prospect of playing for his hometown Leafs was more tantalizing than returning to the team which had done everything possible to retain him."

Except build a contender around him during the 9 prime years of service he provided them, bring in a legitimate #1 goaltender, solidify a home base for the foreseeable future, or sell him on their new course for the future, despite Lou and Trotz coming in, and having a half-decent pool of prospects in the system...

The media is very disingenuous. That statement is laughable. He (Fischer) can be upset but he can’t remove himself from facts.

I can't speak for the person you're responding to, but if they simply mean that they believe our front office is so confident in its cap management that they don't need to stress and worry about how things are going to unfold, then I think they could be right - especially as far as having to re-allocate dollars from our core forwards (such as Nylander or Kadri) in order to make everything work is concerned. I think it's very possible they're quite comfortable with their cap situation moving forward.

Listen, no doubt that $8.5 million is better; that is a heck of a home-town discount, but given the teams persuing Tavares were willing to pay $13 million (in US states that had lower taxes then Ontario), the Leafs did pretty well. $11million is in line with what pundits projected Tavares’ market value as, and given Bozak+ JVR + Komorov went a combined $15 million (which is mind-boggling), the choice here was pretty much: resign out own guys or get Tavares and fill two winger roles with ELCs like Johnsson, Altonen or Bracco from the Marlies (and still have about a million or so left over). For me the choice seems obvious.

I've been lurking over these forums for days and have seen one, maybe two islander fans being reasonable and trying to defend his legacy there, but the vast majority are highly negative. I well remember Sundin's departure, his bs about "start in training camp, finish the season with 1 team", the sting of betrayal when he convinced the rest of the "muskoka 5" to not waive their clauses. But I also remember the welcome back he received, I remember cheering on the Canucks, a team I absolutely loath, because Mats was on that team and he deserved to do what he wanted, even cup chase. All this is to say that I am absolutely thrilled a kid i used to watch for the freakin Icehawks as a top guy for the Maple Leafs, and the Saltiness of many of the members of other fanbases, but particularly that of the islanders is oh so sweet.
