you're delusional if you think Galchenyuk isnt a valuable pieces. 30goal scorer at 21 year old. he might never be good all around like tavares, but i woulnt be suprise if he ends up out produce him. Galchenyuk has still alot of room to grow and is still dominant, first full season at center, needs to work on his consistency and two-way game, other than that his a top tier player.

Tavares is better than Chucky by a wide margin, and it won't close enough in the next 5 years for this to be a worth while trade.

In this scenario, Tavares is the best quality piece. This is a "lets tack on a prospect and 2 firsts to upgrade" from NHL16 and that simply isn't how the real NHL works. Not to mention Tavares is the face of the franchise

Galchenyuk OVERALL game will probably never reach Tavares's games but he could end up being a be more productive than Tavares. Tavares only has 2 years left on his contract, will be UFA. Chucky is RFA at 22 year old and will sign for a good 6years for around 6-6.5 based on current market, while tavares will probably get 8million+ if not more since the market could go up in 2 years. add sergachev a top 10 Dman with high offensive upside and 2 unknown 1st who could end up anything. take your homer glasses of this is a very bad management trade for Montreal.

I'm a fan of neither team, but at Price and Weber's ages, your current 1D and 1G, how valuable is contending while their windows are still open for the time being.

Tavares would obviously be a huge step in that direction especially considering how Montreal's biggest hole atm is true, bonafide #1 C to complement your skill guys up front.

That being said, it is extremely, extremely likely that Galchenyuk's value never comes close to Tavares's. Yes, he's a good promising young player but is so, so far behind Tavares as it stands right now. It's also extremely likely that Sergachev and both of those 1st rounders also never come close to Tavares's value. Proven > potential, every time and that's what you'd be paying for in a deal like this. Especially when the proven guy is a 26 year old top 3-7 center in the entire league, signed to an unreal contract for the next two years.

So I don't really think it's that bad of a deal for Montreal as you're making it out to be. Not that this would ever happen in real life, lets be honest NYI is not moving Tavares period.

2 years of tavares does not get you the future of the habs.

price > tavares
galchenyuk > strome
sergachev > barzal

go for better comparables next time

"But that makes no sense because the players on my team are immensely superior to Islanders players" said a fan from every single canadian team in every single NYI-[canadian team] trade proposal thread ever.

it's not a good deal for montreal. you're guessing at 27's projections which have trended up for 4 years. he scored 30 as a 22 year old. sergachev is going to be a stud. a projected 1 or 2...i love tavares...but he doesn't make habs insanely better while we're stuck with a declining plekanec and desharnais. we'd need BOTH tavares and 27...
this is a somewhat lateral move. and i won't mortgage the future with those 4 pieces. we'd need to ADD tavres to chucky, not remove him...

Patches and Galchenyuk for Tavares and...

I actually can't quite think of what player is the best fit here... this move downgrades the Islanders a little bit, but think of the long term gain. Get Galchenyuk a MacKinnon/Schiefle like contract and load up for the Cup for two years with a top line winger super cheap until 2019, who could probably be retained.

Losing Tavares sucks (really does), but I think it's a deal NYI could stomach (though I may be wrong)

As is, I'm thinking it might be too much from MTL - young 50 point center (getting better every year, could be a 70 point guy), 30 goal scorer captain. The heart of the offense (along with Radulov)

I guess it's all relative, because Tavares, as good as he is, maybe isn't worth that price. But again, still can't think of an appropriate second piece. Then again, Tavares has been PPG or better four years in a row except last year. Is he going to start putting up 90+? Hopefully.

Think of the center spine of MTL...

Tavares
Weber
Price

That amount of strength up the middle of the ice... that's what wins you the Cup. With good depth of course.

Overall, a bit of a mixed bag about what I think of my proposal, but anyway...

Don't know what the plus could be or, feel free to add your 0.02 or if you feel MTL doesn't give enough (with or without a second piece from NYI). Open to it

Teams don't trade franchise top 6 Centers in the league. Last time anything resembling this happened was Boston trading Thornton. Maybe the Russians or Belorussian American would help draw in Brighton Beach, but I doubt that overcomes trading your franchise center.

That was the last time until they traded Seguin too haha.

You're wrong.

Tavares is the only reason keeping this team from being a lottery pick team.

First of all with the new CBA you cannot offer your player a new contract until there is 1 year left on his contract,so what sense would it make to trade for Tavares and then on July 1st offer him an 8 year max deal, and he chooses not to sign, because maybe he does not want to play in Montreal or for Therrien, now you are stuck with a player with 1 year left on his contract.

So Basically, Shea Weber for ...

Brock Nelson
Michael Dal Colle
2016 & 2017 1st?

I don't see the equivalent to Galchenyuk in this witty retort. To be fair OPs offer isn't that embarassing, but of course NYI would never trade Tavares for quantity.

On paper it's a good deal, but the Isles reject if only for one reason: they trade Tavares, and you can kiss that franchise goodbye, out of New York. With all the issue they're having retaining players, arena snafus, possibly playing in a parking lot in the near future, you can't just turn around and trade the face of your franchise. Would send a horrible message to the team, and especially to the fans who have been super patient putting up with massive amounts of BS.

"Hey everyone, on top of losing Okposo and Nielson, having the worst ice in the league, moving the Isles off Long Island proper, and exploring how we might play in the damn parking lot at Citifield...we ALSO just traded John Tavares for Galchenyuk and futures. DON'T WAIT TO GET YOUR SEASON TICKETS, FANS!"

Hell no. They'd never sell another ticket, and rightfully so.

Tavares is a top 5 center in the world. Those players never get traded unless a GM has a brain cramp. So much for all the Malkin rumors and he's still with the Penguins.

When Seguin was traded he wasn't a first line center in the league yet, so you can't count him as a counter-example ;)
