This would be exactly what the Canes need: A 30-goal scorer who knows how to bury his opportunities.

Just hope he can stay healthy. Pacioretty was supposed to be that guy last year but unfortunately was befell by injuries.

Canes are having another solid offseason just like they did last year. Definitely will be cup contenders once again next year. They have the defense and competent goaltending but their offense has done them in during multiple post season runs.

With TDA they are barely cap compliant

Teaurveinen going ?

Much more likely they have a trade for Pesce lined up.

CapFriendly is a little misleading. They have more than $2M in space. Send down Ponomarev, Suzuki and Rees, who all won’t be on roster next year, and they have over $4M. If they trade Pesce, the then have over $8M. Subtract $2.5M for TDA and they have $5M to offer Tarasenko.

If nothing else, I think this takes them out of the Karlsson sweepstakes, but who freaking knows. They’ve been uber aggressive so far, they might find a way there too.

Works for the Athletic, doesn't really try to be a typical insider and only puts stuff out there when she's certain. Can't remember her being wrong about something she's put out there yet.
And she has been pretty accurate with some Rangers and Canes related content in recent years.

First one to break the Skjei trade down to the return being a first round pick.

Canes seem like a good home for Vladi. Medium Market team, Media isn't insane, good city (from what I know), and a need for his skill (goal scoring ability). Hopefully it works out well for both Vladi and Carolina.

Probably not, but I wouldn’t count them completely out just yet
Hope Canes are out, I want my Pens to get him. ;)
Don’t think the two moves are related.

We still have the ability to get both Tarasenko and Karlsson by moving Pesce, Skjei and Teravainen. At least one of Pesce/Skjei are probably getting moved as is.

Orlov, Bunting, Tank, ADA, Karlsson, Lindholm (well, it was discussed). That has to be a first in NHL history that many names go to 1 team.

The Canes had an absurd amount of cap space compared to what contenders normally have going into this offseason, and they also had a huge share of pending UFA expirings (Aho/Skjei/Pesce) that they wanted to deal with early and/or pivot away from. It was well-poised to be a rather crazy offseason affair this time.
