On cap friendly carolina is 13-6-2 and one RFA RD Coghlan to sign with about $4.5M assuming svech is on roster and not LTIR.

Yea with bad goaltending lol. its the Golden Knights who just won actually.
Many teams over the years have rode a hot goalie in the playoffs.

Tarasenko is a good add, would have liked to keep him, but hes still a shell of what he used to be

I wonder if Nashville sneaks in with an offer for Tarasenko as the Preds badly need a 1RW, maybe his old teammate Ryan O’Reilly could convince Tank to go to Smashville on a 1 year deal and then cash out next season on the open market.

I thought he was probably going there at the trade deadline tbh. So this isn't shocking. It seems like the obvious fit all around.

Lost
he most definitely is when healthy.

I'm not so sure, he's been through the ringer at this point.

He looked to have lost a ton of foot speed when I was watching him with the Rangers in particular, at some point all of these injuries simply catch up with a player.

That doesn't mean he still can't be a solid player who can chip in 25 goals.

Nashville would make sense. But I get the feeling Tarasenko wouldn't want to join ROR, if the reports about him getting all poopy pants over not being named captain are true

Fair enough. Powerplay is a big issue too so Tank does help there. But wouldn’t they likely be moving out Tuevo to help make up the cap he signs for?

Possibly, but TT had a very poor season. Tank would be more than worth it as a replacement.

Yea I forgot about that debacle, but it’s an entirely different front office staff and coaching staff with Nashville, but maybe Tank still feels some kinda way about that situation.

If his goal is to make bank on the open market, going to Nashville to play with O’Reilly would be an odd way to go about it.

I mean if we want to pretend Necas and Jarvis play center when the Canes are healthy we can.
They don’t because Canes literally have more centers than wingers…

Nashville has a 1RW spot wide open with plenty of playing time on PP.

He could potentially pump up his numbers with Nashville they also have a full season of PP specialist Tyson Barrie, so that would help with net front deflections or burying rebounds for Tank.

Carolina took 3 cracks at it with Trocheck, generally thought to be a legit 2C, centering the other scoring line. They only gambled on more of a Middle 6 type this past season.

New York’s 2nd line was centered by Ryan Strome. Florida’s was by Sam Bennett. Not a ringing endorsement for the need for strength at that position.

I’m not saying it couldn’t possibly work, but they had a bottom-10 offense last year and are transitioning into a rebuild. Their off-season moves have that “veteran character” quality that signals a lack of competitiveness in the short term. Being a 1RW in the context of a struggling team with pop-gun offense and no playoff exposure isn’t necessarily the best thing for a free agent. It could easily lead to him looking worse than he actually is.

If it was money thrn Anaheim coukd sign him anfd thrm trade him at the deadline.

i think he’s looking at a team who could be making the playoffs. I think Carolina is the best option in terms of space and being a contender.

Carolina is certainly one of the better contenders in the league but Nashville is a team that could conceivably make the playoffs with an acquisition of Tarasenko and maybe another forward as their defense is mostly intact and the Preds still have one of the top starters in Saros.

Line 1 LW Forsberg C Novak RW ???
Line 2 LW Nyquist C O’Reilly RW Evangelista
Line 3 LW Trenin C Sissons RW Parssinen
Line 4 LW Sherwood C Glass RW Tomasino

Extra’s: LW Smith and RW McCarron

I think the captain rumors were somewhat overblown, but I never got the sense that ROR and Tarasenko were buddy buddy in STL. Not that they don't like each other, but they both kind of do their own thing in very different ways. And they didn't mesh together very well on the ice either.

Tarasenko is probably in the toughest spot of any free agent this summer. He's been waiting a long time to finally get to test the open market and it just happens to be a summer where teams are cash strapped and hesitant to give out long-term deals to guys his age. If he was a bit younger, he may have already signed a one-year prove-it deal like Bertuzzi but considering his age and injury history I doubt Tarasenko is thrilled at that possibility.
