Tank Fails

We play the Ducks 3 more times, the Yotes 2 more times and the Sharks 1 more times. Those are all huge 4 points games (meaningful games in March!). The results of those games will probably determine the standing for the 27th to 30th places. I guess there is a chance Montreal falls back a bit and join that grouping, but you would think that StL, Philly and Ott are probably gone.

The Nucks do play Chi 2 more times but at 37 points currently and trading Kane/Toews soon, I don't think we can catch them.

So I guess the best we can realistically do is finished 30th overall, and worst is probably 26th. If that is the case, the worst case scenario is finishing 26th and drafting 9th (5.6%), but the best case scenario is finishing 30th and drafting 1st (11.5%).

The current trend suggest that we are more likely to be finishing 30th than 26th though. This tank's efficiency far exceeded my expectation.

If we did finish 30th, we would fall from 3rd to 5th and miss out on the big 4.

Smith/Michkov aren't bad for consolation prizes. Locking up 30th is going to ensure we walk out of the draft with an elite piece either way.

Montreal is hanging in there so far. Down 2-1 on the road to a powerhouse Carolina. I really am starting to think that team has what it takes to lift itself into mediocrity. And they really aren't selling any major pieces that I can think of.

Korpisalo has been giving them some excellent starts lately, and CBJ is just full of kids with lots of energy trying to impress for next year, feel like they could go on a little run of being a spoiler here and there but I agree that they are too far away.

I'm not sure the team has the patience to wait on him. A rebuilding team would not mind a 3-4 more years of getting nothing from a top 4 overall pick but I doubt the Canucks plan on it.
