Teams may very well value Tuch without the extension in place more than him being tied to his retirement deal from age 30-37 or whatever. His value still in his prime for two playoff runs at $4.75 AAV and then NOT having to pay him for his declining years is a bonus, not a deterrent. I want Tuch this year and next more than I want to be the team to give him his 6-7 year retirement extension that is all in his 30’s.
Smart teams will pay more for Tuch now at this deadline than when he’s tied into his next extension.
If extends in Buffalo this summer or fall, that’s great and hopefully the plan. But I’d hope you’d have some indication of his openness to it now, even if he can’t officially extend yet.
