meh the leaf's core is in year 6 it took 12 year's for Stamko's and Tampa to get over the hump and win the cup.

I mean before they won the cup, they were going deep in the playoffs. They made it to the conference final 4 times, including a trip to the final round. This group haven't shown they are capable of closing out a series, it's not from a lack off opportunities either. With each passing year and each first round exit the ghosts of previous seasons grows larger,

this was essentially a Conference finals played in the first round, I am rooting against the Leafs but if they played any other team in the 1st and 2nd they would have won, I still don't understand the logic of this format, the old 1-8 2-7 3-6 etc. playoff format worked fine and you more often than not got the best teams still standing at the end, just a stupid format if you want the better teams to advance as far as possible in the playoffs
I assume this is because some guys in suits, who haven't played sports since their moms tied their shoelaces, came up with this concept of enforced "rivalry" and thought it was a great idea.

Not reading much of this thread as I expect it to be just haters being annoying haters and leafs fans over reacting wanting everyone shot to the sun.

I’m not mad at all at the leafs this year. We played an extremely good team and pushed them to their limits. It was a good effort against a good team and we just lost cause someone has to lose in series like these.

I get it if my fellow leafs fans are frustrated and wants everyone fired and traded and posting negative post. Losing sucks no matter what. Just be happy we make the playoff every year and always have a full series when some fans of team wish they could make the playoffs even for just an extra 4 games. Our time will come. Ignore the haters who only feast when we’re down.

Bettman can lie all he wants but the NHL will be in a 1-6/7-10 playin format within 3-4 years. If he does not do it the new commish will for sure. So those who hate this format will be happy soon

I am glad the Lightning did it for merica after witness them classless boos during our national anthem.
The fans were obnoxious and disrespectful the entire series. I loved seeing the dejected crowd.

Oilers fans are more of an example of great Canadian fans. And they’re actually loud.

IIRC we got Paul when we traded Spezza. Looks like he just ended his career.
Yep. Traded Spezza for Paul in 2014. 5 years later he finally solidifies a roster spot with the Sens. 2 years after that we send him to Tampa Bay to assassinate the Leafs in the 1st round, and put what is likely the dagger in Spezza's career.

And Spezza was traded from Ottawa because he requested it. So in a way, he sealed his own fate tonight.

The league is run by a bunch of lawyers who care about 1 thing: making money.

They have convinced themselves that artificial parity and rivalries generates money, therefore the integrity of the sport can be ignored.

These 2 teams were 3rd and 4th in the east this year. They shouldn't have played each other.

However, you play the opponent you're given and have to find the way to win.
The Leafs would have had to play the Lightning (or a better team) eventually.

Yeah, it's the League's job to make the playoffs as exciting as possible, which this year resulted in five 7th games.

It's not the League's job to ensure that the Leafs (or any other team) get an opponent they can beat.

IMHO, this excuse is the lamest of all.

Pretty sad for Tavares if he gets traded. Kind of hope he can make something happen for another Canadian team. Either him or Nylander is gone 100% but not sure it will be both.
