While I understand the concept of playing with house money, I don't buy into it.

The Rangers, pretty much the whole season, have shown to be (proven even) that they are as good as any team in the league. All teams have certain matchups that are not advantageous and the Canes were that problem team for the NYR's during the Regular Season.

It's nice that we are young and in the conference finals, but I will be no less disappointed in losing now than I would be in 2-3 years.

Down 2-0 to Carolina, I thought for sure they were swept or out in 5.

To win 4 of the next 5 from that Canes team with that game 5 loss so clear in my head, I am no longer comfortable writing this team off.

I have every belief that they can beat Tampa Bay. They have shown time and again that they are a more than capable enough team.

Just happy to be here is no longer viable. I believe they can win, I want them to win.
The reason we talk about house money is that our "core" is young and essentially playoff inexperienced.
We saw it in the bubble.

Its expected that a team sets reasonable expectations for itself each season. Drury's expectation based on the moves he made, were playoffs and potentially a first round win.
I think most of us on the board had similar expectations at the start of the season.
No one expected igor to be a hart candidate. That carried us through alot of wins and pushed us further up in the standings. Thats why we have home ice now, why we were 2nd in the metro.
So if our expectations at the start of the year were rd1/2, and we're on round 3, we're ahead of projections.

Thats it.

The fact that we're ahead of the curve is fantastic, and exactly why we're playing with house money. But its also awesome to keep pushing.
That being said, every game from here on out, is just gravy for our kids and future development.

As someone who has gotten free tickets from teams before, its never ok to wear "the visiting team gear" when you get free tickets from the home team.
You get free tickets, you wear no gear or you wear home team gear.

You buy tickets, you can wear team gear you want.

I think it was a dumber response. Why give the bolts any extra incentives... especially Vasy.
There's no other right answer. You go with your teammate. That's why it's a dumb question.

I can see this being Rangers in 5 as much as I can see this Rangers in 7....

Tampa knows how to win.

They will clog the middle and take away the seam pass. They will get in front of shots. They will manage the puck well. They have a massive goalie that's hard to beat if he's set and sees it.

It will come down to special teams again and minimizing mistakes. I like our chances if we play up to our capabilities and play simple north/south hockey.

The bolded is why people shouldn't be writing them off.

That and the fact that they just swept the team that won the presidents trophy. Thats kind of a big deal too.

I don't think the Rangers will fall into the same trap that the Panthers did, but the Rangers are going to have to play their best hockey now. Which means that they can't make stupid give aways on the PP, they can't whiff on clearing attempts, Panarin has to show up, etc.

PP also has to remain hot. If it goes cold, we're toast. PK also has to be strong because Tampa's PP is also quite good.

I think people are making too much about the 9 day layoff.

A 2-time defending Cup champion doesn't get derailed by that kinda thing.

I'd expect a VERY ready TBL team tomorrow night, who are all WELL aware the accomplishment winning 3 in a row, IN A CAP LEAGUE would be.
Somewhat disagree.

that's a long time between series and in one breath I can look at this in the negative and say the rhythm they had could be lost for a game or two at which point they could be climbing out of a 2-0 hole.

In the other breath, I see that this is a team that has played a ton of hockey over the last 6-8 years and getting a 9 day break in middle of it all probably couldn't have come at a better time.

That said, the Lightning are very different team than Carolina and while they pose their own set of challenges, I think the groove the Rangers are in now will be a real problem for Tampa and part of that is going to be due to the lack of game prepped legs that will start to feel heavy early.

Yeah...lets just skip the whole "You gotta lose first before you can win" thing and whoop Tampa's ass. Then we'll whoop Edmonton's ass. We'll save the "You gotta lose first" thingie for McDavid in the Final after we beat up the Oilers. But one step at a time. I'm convinced if we beat Tampa, we're going all the way.

The only player that I worry about is Vaselevsky. Have to get him moving from side to side and screen him to get some pucks into the net. He’s literally a stone wall out there. Maybe take a few “accidental” runs at him too lol.

opening salvo

Smart man. What’s he supposed to say?

Tampa had rest during the entire qualifying round of the bubble and still beat their round 1 opponent in 5 games. A rest won't hurt em.
