Replace Asham with Rupp as he's suspended. Maybe Hrivik/Miller get a shot for the first two games.
Kreider with Boyle?.. yikes, I dont like that pairing, Boyle can't keep up with him.

Kolarik provides nothing on the 4th line, think Enver Lisin or Petr Prucha on the 4th line and all of their "production." If we are looking for an extra 4th line body Newbury or Haley will get that shot, Kolarik is a skilled player who didn't look too bad in his time with the Rangers 2 seasons ago.
I remember another player close to Kolarik's age who had no business being on the big team a few years ago, PA Parenteau and look at how well that one worked out for us. Age is a number, if he fits into out system, plays his heart out, and can produce I don't care where he came from or that he is 27.
yea Kreider needs to be on a line with Gabby or Nash so everyone is worried about them and leaves Kreider to snipe some goals. I think he plays with Stepan and Gabby to start.
Hagelin just makes more sense as an energy player on a 3rd line plus it could be a solid shutdown line vs. other teams top lines. Boyle wont score a bunch but he is a good Pker
If we're going by last season it's actually Callahan that is better suited for 3rd line duties, not Hagelin.
Hagelin was ~top 30 in the entire league in even strength points per minute, elite 1st line numbers. While some of it was due to hot streaks and linemates, he produced very well in the bottom 6 when he was called up as well. He had great chemistry with Richards even before Gaborik was out on their line.
Callahan OTOH does most of his scoring on the PP, and has rather pedestrian offensive numbers at ES, where he contributes with his hustle and all-round play - like a 3rd liner.
Hagelin should play with Richards at ES with limited PP time on the 2nd unit since his game doesn't really translate, while Callahan should play on the third line shutting down the opponents at ES, park his ass in front of the net on the our first PP unit and play the PK to perfection as he has done with great success the past two years.
I know he's not a fourth liner; that wasn't the point. The point is that he's an AHL top-six guy and that's it. Parenteau was ALWAYS projected as much better than Kolarik and just hadn't put it together and cracked the lineup. Kolarik has bounced around without cracking anyone's lineup, doesn't have a very high upside in the first place and and he's older than PA was when PA started showing something in the NHL. More to the point, we are poised for a cup run. Especially in a shortened season, we're not going to give a 27 year old never has been his chance in our top-nine when we need to focus on getting into the playoffs, developing chemistry in our forward lines and being ready to rumble in the post season. It's not the year to give a kid a tryout.
Brooks just tweeted Hrivik could get a look in camp. He's earned it IMO, has played really well.
Kolaik has never had the AHL success that PAP did. He'll get a look, but let's not start drawing that comparison just yet.
Parenteau played in the AHL for 8 years, Kolarik is entering his 4th year... How can you compare level of success when someone was a seasoned veteran, 2 years away from being a 10 year player in the AHL. Yes PA's stats are better long term, but if you look at the first 4 years and compare them Kolarik actually has better stats point wise and are extremely close in goals.

What about signing a UFA is there is a depth issue and the kids need more time? Some guys like Hecht, Winchester, Darche are still out there. Not that these guys are great but they could offer a better 4th line option than what is proposed now.
Is Columbus or Nashville swapping spots with Winnipeg in the East this year?
Also, is Redden coming back to the Whale? It would be great to have him work with McLIrath.
Nash - Richards - Callahan
Krieder - Stepan - Gaborik
Hagelin - Miller - Pyatt
Ashem - Boyle - Halpern
Rupp
If Miller was ready
Don't really like Boyle as the #3 center.
Is Chad Kolarik your cousin man? He was drafted 8 years ago and has a whopping six games of NHL experience and isn't a standout in the AHL either. He is not going to be an NHL regular and especially not on this team, this year. Why are you defending him so vehemently? He barely even qualifies as a fringe player.
