Too good for AHL talent, not good enough for the NHL...He's going to need to be on a line with a guy that can carry a line until he shows immense improvement. In terms of how ready of a guy he is and how ready his game, he reminds me of Kassian. His size and strength can keep his head above water in the minors and lesser talent, but when he's running into guys that are as strong or big, he's faultering. He's trying to use the skills and plays he knows how to do, but he's going to need to find other ways to be effective.

What makes him too good for AHL talent? He's not.

That was a bad way to put it. I think he’s in that area where’s not quite ready for the NHL but not much more can be taught to him at the AHL.

Considering his prospect tourney thru now, I’d say Rochester might be perfect. Let him show he can be ppg or close in the minors and then come back around the holidays.

Of course he might just need a couple games to adjust.

Thompson needs 20 minutes a night working his butt off in Rochester. I like him, I really do, but he needs minutes and some seasoning

I am a huge fan but he needs to play a month or so down in Rochester. Him stick handling out in front of his net in the opener had me blowing a gasket. You cannot do that ever let alone when you are 21 trying to make the team for the long haul. He will be alright though, give him 15 games down in Rochester and then bring him back up.

Sending Thompson down after only 2 games probably the worst thing the Sabres can do. Keep him up for 10 games and work with him. He doesn't have to play in all of them. You can't develop players in an atmosphere where they're afraid they'll be demoted if they make a mistake.

He has the same stat line as Okposo who is entrenched based on contract status. To be honest, he skates well has good size and is creative with the puck. He earned at least 15 games based on the preseason.

Bring Nylander up and onto the Mitts - Thompson line and let them figure it out together. Then I’d feel compensated for having to look at BowlEwe, Nelson and Okposo out there.
Also, remove Okposo and Risto from pp1 and replace them with Mitts and Dahlin.
And no, Thompson doesn’t belong in the ahl.

Thompsob down Nylander up
But I have the feeling they wont recall anyone unless there are no bodies available even if they should sen Thompson down.

His over stick handling kills offensive chances and creates turnovers. It's so frustrating to watch.
It was clear in the prospect tourney and preseason that this is a problem in his game. He has some skill but he is never going to be dangling all over the ice at this level. He needs to learn quickly to pick his spots. Keep it simple, let your shot lead you.

Build the reputation of a quick shooter with a bomb and then magically more space will become available for the occasional deke.

Rochester only plays 9 times over the next 4 weeks. Not a lot ice time. He needs work on his tendencies not his on ice package IMO.

If we really want Tage to have success in Buffalo, i think he needs to take a trip down I-90 and play with the Amerks for a little while. He is capable and has the skillset, but he needs to slow his game down a little and make smarter and simpler plays. The AHL might afford him the opportunity to do just that. The fact that the team seems to be rolling right now should make the decision easier.

Maybe with Rochester rolling, maybe they don't want him. :sarcasm:
