Zetterberg - Sundin - Modin
Näslund - Forsberg - Hannula
Axelsson - PÃ¥hlsson - Alfredsson <- spent the entire 04/05 season together.
Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson <- played together at the 2005 world champs.

I think those lines can be pretty good actually. :handclap:

It's not terrible to pick Jönsson for the olympic rooster.
Jönsson has great experiance from international tournaments. He's one of our top penalty killers. He has a very high lowest level, and will not do a bad tounament...

However... There are players that could do a better offensive job and that shouldn't have been left out. Holmström being the most obvious.

Personally, I'd like to switch Hannula for Holmström and keep Jönsson.

Wasn't he named captain in Salt Lake despite Sunding and Forsberg being on the team?
(I could be way off base here mind you)

Sundin was the captain in Salt Lake, and has been named captain once again. Alfredsson and Norström will wear the A:s.

Is Kronwall even going to be healthy by February? I hear he could be back for the Wings after the Olympic break...didn't think he'd be playing for Sweden though.

Leaving off Holmstrom is a crime...he better be on the taxi squad.

I assume Lundqvist would be the #1 but I'd be interested to see Liv play. He's just been a name to me...haven't ever seen him play.

And I really think TOMMY SALO should have been on the roster.

He wouldn't have played (as the third goalie), but the guy has done so much for Swedish hockey (like winning a gold medal) and he has a great season so far for Frolunda, while so many people want to see him fail.

He should have gotten the recognition by the third goalie spot.

Perhaps they feel he had his time and want to give a younger goalie some experience of the bigger scenes. And liv is funnier. :)

I feel bad for Holmström, he really should have made it. I do not see what speedy winger Mika Hannula is doing on the team. There are certainly better options over seas (not only Holmström, but also Marcus Nilson and Jonathan Hedström IMO).

What I like, however, is that Sweden will likely dress three offensive lines instead two which has been the case in the past. The Sedins will work out very well on the third line.

It's like in any other european Olympicsquad I think. They just don't want to have a pure NHL-Squad that perhaps win a medal. Perhaps the Coach thinks that Holmström is a better Player than J.Jönsson. But they want to give the Players that play in Sweden some kind of credit imo.

to tell the truth, I didn't even know Hannula was swedish. Can't fathom how they could chose him over guys like Holmström and Steen. It's simply Pejorative Slured to use SEL players (and even an Allsvenskan player) if they're going with NHL rules in the Olympics.

J. Jönsson and Hannula in :amazed:

Holmström and Nilson out :amazed:

Nonetheless, it's a scary team.

Nylander too, i really dont undestand this one. Im thankfull as a team canada fan I figured this was the Swedes tournament but without these three its gonna be really tough.

I thought this would be the lineup.

Forsberg Nylander Naslund
Modin Sundin Alfredsson
Sedin Sedin Zetterberg
Axelsson Nilson Holmstrom
Steen

Lidstrom Norstrom
Ohlund Johnsson
Kronwall Backman
Jonsson

Lundqvist
Tellqvist
Hedberg

Is what I expected.

This is one scary team. Top three lines can be shuffled in many different ways and still be stacked :amazed: :amazed: :amazed:

Too bad Holmstrom didn't make it. He was having a very good year for the Wings. I think he may have been victim of politics since there probably needed to be a few guys from the national league and not so many from the NHL. :dunno:

Just out of curiosity, why is Forsberg never given a leadership role in anything? Not with Sweden, not in the NHL....what's the reason for it? I get that he isn't a rah rah guy...but neither is Sakic etc...

I get the sense that he is the type of guy that does his job (very well) and goes home. I think you need at least 2 of the 3 c's or a's as a rah rah guy.

Sakic is a personable guy. Sadly, he had his personality removed at the age of 12 due to complications from the chicken pox.

Forsberg seems like a bit of a loner or something. I mean, he's arguably the best player in the world, and there's no attitude problems or anything...but he just doesn't strike me as captain material for whatever reason.

I think you answered your own question, Mika made the team because he´s a great skater. Something Holmström isn´t to be honest, sure Tomas is tough but I reckon Gustafsson wants to play another style of hockey. Marcus Nilson has never played under Bengt-Åke and I don´t think he´ll ever will, every coach has their favourites as we all know. Jörgen Jönsson is quite obviously a favourite of Bengt-Åke, but I´m not certain JJ will play center this time.

Not selecting Jonathan Hedström was a surprise though after his fine performances the last two World Championships, and the fact that he plays on the same line as Samuel Påhlsson in Anaheim. I suspect he´s thinking of reunite Påhlsson with Axelsson and Alfredsson.

Holmstorm is missing for what?

I was thinking that he would the perfect linemates for the Sedin brothers
