There is 14 forwards listed. There should only be 13.

Which one of those forwards didn't make the team?

Well isn't that silly!

Leaving off Holmstrom, who is a gritty guy, a 3-time Stanley Cup Champion, and on pace for almost 60 points this NHL season.

And no Nylander is kind of silly too.

Some really poor selections. The Jönsson brothers should not be on this squad. Kenny is playing in Allsvenskan, the second highest swedish level. That is like a player from the AHL playing for Team Canada. Due to the lockout that means he hasn´t played against top quality players since 03-04. He is not prepared for the olympics. As simple as that. Niclas Hävelid should have been there instead.

Jörgen Jönsson is having a mediocre sesaon in SEL. 17 points in 29 games and an average +5 while playing for one of the top teams. Historically he has been a good penalty killer, that has not been the case this season. At least not as good as previous seasons. There are a number of better swedish centers that did not make the team - Michael Nylander, Andreas Karlsson, Johan Davidsson being the most obvious.

I also miss Marcus Nilson. He is having a great year in Calgary and should have been picked ahead of the likes of Mika Hannula and Samuel PÃ¥hlsson.

And of course Holmström should be on there as well.

Excluding Holmström was stupid, no doubt about that. Nylander isn't good enough to play on the top lines, and is far too much of a defensive liability to play on the checking lines, so no complaints there.

Possible lineup:

Alfredsson - Sundin - Modin
Zetterberg - Forsberg - Näslund
Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson
Hannula - J.Jönsson - Påhlson

Lidström - Öhlund
Johnson - Norström
Kronwall - Bäckman
K.Jönsson

Looks pretty descent imo...

Wow. :amazed: :shakehead

I figured he was almost a lock, especially since he's been excelling on the PP with Lidstrom on the point for so long. :dunno:

I am biased as a Wings fan, but this is absolutely stupid.

How can you leave a proven, dedicated veteran like Tomas Holmstrom at home ?

I thought leaving Brendan Shanahan of the Canadian roster was silly, although understandable, given the fact that the Canadians are drowning in a pool of excellent forwards.

But this ?????

This is a shame !!!
:shakehead :shakehead :shakehead

And I really think TOMMY SALO should have been on the roster.

He wouldn't have played (as the third goalie), but the guy has done so much for Swedish hockey (like winning a gold medal) and he has a great season so far for Frolunda, while so many people want to see him fail.

He should have gotten the recognition by the third goalie spot.

Why pick a guy like Salo for the third goalie? He has baggage from past international tournaments the team doesn't really need.

:shakehead Pisses me off the most that Marcus Nilson didn´t make the team.

And my God, why does Jörgen Jönsson always has to be on the team. Even a mediocre season in Färjestad seems to be enough. Jörgen will play on the national team as long as he wants to obviously.

That 4th line doesnt inspire confidence :(

That's because they all got picked over Holmstrom.

What the hell were they thinking not bringing him? Did someone lose a bet or something?

In such a short tourney that the olympics are you need your PP specialists (Holmström), one of the best screeners around should be a lock that's without considering that he's on his way to put up career numbers in every category.

Replace Hannula with Axelsson and it looks a bit better. Still hate Jörgen Jönsson but he must have some compromising pictures of swedish coaches.

Not only Holmström, you got Nilson in Calgary, Nylander in NY, Hedström in Anaheim, Sundström in Montreal etc. they are all better then Jörgen Jönsson and Mika Hannula.

I can not get over the managments infatuation in Jörgen Jönsson, he's having his worst season in years yet he's still there, a ******* joke.

Wow, some incredible choices there!! No Holmström?? What the hell is wrong with people choosing Team Sweden?? As a finn Holmström scared me much more than Sedins or Modin!

4th line looks suspicious to me, Jönsson + Hannula??

Still a serious contender, especially with Lundqvist in goal.

Wasn't he named captain in Salt Lake despite Sunding and Forsberg being on the team?
(I could be way off base here mind you)

Weird not picking Holmström, also what is JJ and Hannula doing there? Imo no forwards should come from the SEL. Kenny Jönsson has been great in international play and has a ton of experience from NHL so I'm OK with him being selected. Canada also made some weird choices. Still think we have a good chance of getting a medal though.

Yeah, like a veteran voice in the dressing room.
But you're reffering to SLC I reckon.. I that case a lot of those guys have that same "baggage" cause a lot of them were on the ice that game.

But I don't want to get into a whole Tommy Salo argument here, it has been discuseed thoroughly over the years.

You have your opinion and I have mine.

C'est ca.

I believe these are good picks overall, with a few exceptions. I miss physical and gritty players like Marcus Nilson, Jonathan Hedström and especially Thomas Holmström. Sure, Jörgen Jönsson is useful in box play situations, but where's the power play specialists like Holmström?

Kronwall is a good defenseman, but I don't know really about this pick considering the injury problems he's been having so far this season (hasn't played a single game yet). Will he be fully recovered in time for the tournament?

Overall though a pretty good team, and here are the offensive lines I'd like to see:

Sundin - Modin - Zetterberg

Jönsson - Forsberg - Näslund

Alfredsson - Axelsson - PÃ¥hlsson

Samuelsson - Sedin - Sedin

Hannula

These lines have played together in the past. And I don't think Forsberg and Zetterberg should play on the same line, they just don't seem to have great chemistry together in my opinion.

Zetterberg - Sundin - Modin
Näslund - Forsberg - Hannula
Axelsson - PÃ¥hlsson - Alfredsson <- spent the entire 04/05 season together.
Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson <- played together at the 2005 world champs.
