One with a different opinion to yours I guess. He was fine defensively, but he generated nothing in the offensive zone. Ekholm and Karlsson were significantly more impactful all over the ice.
Yeah super weird to glaze Dahlin after this game. He did nothing expect that toe drag on the first period where he lost the puck.

Nah McDavid didn't get anything done as a line he just tried desperately to push his own highlight goals.

Meanwhile Crosby used the elite players around him as his tools and result is on the board.
Exactly. Was pretty telling when Crosby, Marchand and Makar were the last 3 off the ice. Sorry but McDavid is playing for himself and not for the team.

Honestly it was a pretty pedestrian night. I mean you guys impressed on a night where most of what he tried only almost worked… one point… … but yeah we are so blessed.

I was 9-13 years old through the Gretzky-Kurri heights, but McDrai is honestly more entertaining.

Point was impressive for me… still a little underwhelmed and befuddled at Cirelli, Parayko and Hagel… with 50 goal and 80 point defenders sitting home, but c’est la vie

Cirelli had a massive block on Hedman tonight on the powerplay, the TB guys probably got favoritism from Cooper being the coach. Probably PTSD from the whole MSL episode with Yzerman back in 2014, granted those guys wouldn't be mad if they weren't picked. Doug Armstrong probably vouched for a guy like Parayko.

Perhaps you missed the 3 backdoor plays that were near misses generated from Dahlin from the blue line. Not bad for getting zero PP and OT time.
Karlsson was garbage. Ekholm was awesome but I wouldn't say he was generating much.

Not anymore obviously but he's still absolutely elite, no doubt about that. Even in his prime he was more subtle in his game than guys like MacKinnon or Mcdavid, but his hockey smarts are second to none.

His IQ (and speed) has kept him elite in this league.

I prefer him over McD. Nothing beats the center of low gravity that Sid has.

Two of them are teammates and two of them train together in the offseason. There's going to be built in chemistry there. The McDavid line did not have much chemistry going, but they still generated some really good chances, including an excellent save late by Gustaffson to send the game to OT at all.

Cirelli and Hagel would've impressed you more if you saw more penalty kills. They also didn't see the ice much. Thought Hagel was at least doing well finishing his checks and broke up a potential break/odd man rush in OT. Wasn't really a noticeable game from Cirelli, agreed. I think you'll probably like them more the more you see them.

Team Canada is no longer the undisputed best on best. The rest of the world has caught up
It has nothing to do with being loyal, he's already won the Cup 3 times and has virtually done everything in the sport. If Sid has no cups or maybe 1, he'd probably be gone by now. Him being a lifer outweighs everything else in his mind probably. Being a lifer in today's era of sports is a massive accomplishment with the amount of player movement that happens in pro sports.
Winning another Cup > a participation trophy called lifer.

McDavid was just meh tonight. I thought he played a bit too selfish.

I believe Hagel also led Canada in hits with 5. They broke up a potential break in OT. I don't think Cooper brought them in/recruited them to fill the net, although they can both score fine.

Pretty good game overall.

Even though it started out looking like Canada was gonna run over Sweden, the Blue n Yellow didn't go away, played large on defense, Gustavsson was spectacular at times, and if not for Binnington being just as large late, maybe Sweden skates away with the W here.

Better game than I thought it would be. Lots of skill EVERYWHERE on the ice!
