Who else has very little interest in the Four Nations tournament?

I was going to watch this tournament anyways, but have to say my interest in it was moderate before this first game. Now I'll be watching it with much more interest after a great first game. Its good to see players get up and play hard when they put their nation's jersey on which makes it more exciting for the fans.

I don't think it's crazy to not care about players who aren't on the team you root for.

I don't know if your view is different regarding say, the World Jrs. or the Olympics or even the World Championship, and my counterargument is a little bit muted because the 4 Nations is an NHL-organized event that should arguably be a 5 Nations tournament, but...

I personally will never understand the affinity people have for non-best-on-best, corporate league teams over international best-on-best tournaments.
Like yes, the Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy in sports to win, and it's a fantastic show of hockey but IMO it hardly ever rivals the World Jrs. or Olympic tournaments when NHL players are allowed to go.

Not wanting to see the likes of Crosby-McDavid-Makar all share the same ice on the same team against other countries' best players because your local team doesn't have a player selected is, to me, saying you don't like hockey, you like the NHL.

But you root for players who are signed arbitrarily for business reasons mostly to participate in the sport you are a fan of in the local region as operated by the NHL. What's the difference in coincidences?

I think you missed the point of my reply - what is it about best-on-best you dislike, knowing that the Sharks aren't the best right now (and no offence to you, never have been)? And while I know you said you're a fan of the Sharks and not the NHL, would you/do you attend AHL games and lower development leagues to the same extent if the Sharks never existed? Are you automatically an NHL All-Star Game fan because of the required 1-player-per-team?

To me, and many others including the players, it's the literal pinnacle of the sport. Witnessing the best players of the generation show their combined abilities against others' top guys. What isn't there to like?

Yep. Bunch of people here out to lunch. Not seeing many mea culpas from the "gimmick all-star game intensity" crowd.

Pace in the first period and OT was crazy. Intense, physical, talent on display all night. Great, entertaining hockey.

Probably a lot to do with that the NHL haven't let the players go to international tournaments for years. So they where of course very eager to play with their National teams. Dont think players would have been as interested in this 4 Nations if they where allowed to the WC or Olympics. Several of the guys have never been allowed to put on their national teams jersey.

I will check the highlights and results of course. So many great players. Yes, it is a pity we (Czechs) are not participating, but I understand it is NHL tournament and we are lacking D-mans. With AHLers etc. we could make a team, but... but I am really hyped for OG. I remember All-Star game between NA vs rest of the World (2002), that was also very interesting and all top players were there as well.
