Fun game

Honestly Sweden looked better to my eye. Any time you have 2 teams filled with high-end NHL guys, in a one off game it can go either way, even if one team's top end is better.

Canada really didn't create enough offense after the first 10 minutes. They barely had 10 shots in the last 50 minutes. They need to change up the lines and look for a spark.
Sweeden looked like a structure team, while Canada not really. For Canada it looked like: I'll do it all by myself alone! Macjesus and McKinnon coming to mind... skate and shoot. skate and shoot!
Marner was so so but nice shot for the winner.
Crosby elevates players around him. Thoughtful player, well deserved first star.
Happy with Marchand goal.
Hedman is a heck of a defensemen.

Backed both defensemen way back into their end and threw the puck back to a teammate moving up ice with speed. They had no time to close the gap and Marner wound up and let everything go in that shot. All the while Crosby was curling back up ice to stay perfectly on side for the oncoming rush. He knew exactly what he was doing. Perfect play.
plus if you look at Marner on the play he is the furthest guy back when the puck was in the zone, goes to show his strong play on both ends of the ice.

My line pre tournament was

Reinhart - McDavid - Point

still stand by that
I just think the issue is you end up wasting a pretty good center by putting him out with McDavid and IDK who centers that line with Marchand and Jarvis then. I actually thought that line was probably Canada's best at 5-on-5 for most of that game. Maybe drop Reinhart to center that line and move somebody else up?

Lines were fine. Konecny looked out of a position a few times so maybe swap him for Bennett but anyone talking about bad lines/coaching..lol. First game together, what did you expect. You could see the strengths in each trio, evs if it was brief. Binnington made a couple big saves but overall he didn't look great, so I would also be fine with Hill getting a look next game.
Bennett comes in against USA... book it

Big Sid fan and maybe still a top 10 player in the game but just curious what makes you think he's the best? He'd have to be selke winner good defensively to come close to making up for how much more offense guys like McDavid and Mackinnon generate than him.

McDavid should have had 4 points that game. He looked incredible in the first and is only going to get more comfortable when he figures out his linemates tendencies. Mackinnon is way too selfish. The guy doesnt know what a pass is. Ironic he leads the league in assists. Feel like he wants that glory himself at times. Needs to look around once in a while.

Morrissey is a d-man, why in the literal f*** is he going to cover an opposing d-man on a draw?

He went for a puck battle in the middle of the ice and ended up higher up than Konency because Konency fell. He probably just assumed because Konency was behind him he would cover for him, they were essentially switching assignments because it was a broken play.

I'm not saying he couldn't have played it better but it was a broken play and doesn't change the fact that if Parayko was on the bench he would have had the same impact on the play as he did defending the front of the net: zero.

He always does that. He can you beat you down low; and on the rush.

Yeah that's fair, you could probably swap those winger sets from Point and McDavid too.

Marchand would be good with McDavid tbh.
