The Habs farm system is now deeper on D than at any time I can recall since 2008 when it has McDonagh, Fischer, Subban, Y. Weber, Torp, Pateryn, O'Byrne, and Emelin. I remember being told that none of those guys was guaranteed to make it. I said, doesn't matter, there's many of them.
The team now has Guhle, Barron, Xhekaj, Harris, Struble, Norlinder, Kovacevic, Hutson, Engstrom, Mailloux, Trudeau, and Reinbacher. That is on top of two guys in their prime and on good contracts: Matheson and Savard. They're not as good as Markov and Hamrlik were at the equivalent stage, but they're younger and on better contracts, and in my opinion this set of prospects is better.
