What does tanking mean? I think for most it means losing on purpose, or atleast putting ourselves in the best position for failure.
I doubt the Habs coaches and GM's ever purposely tried to lose, especially MSL. Hard to build a winning atmosphere with a loser mentality.

Like all the positive posters, I love how our future D looks. Hoping it pans out.

While all this is good news, I'm doubtful this will change anything for the foreseeable future as long as our goalie situation doesn't change, and either of Hutson and DR come up and go through some growing pains, this will give us plenty of time to sort out the missing pieces at forward and goal. Just hoping the next few drafts and FA offer us good opportunities to fill our needs.

I love the passion of my fellow Habs fans but taking to social media to attack the actual pick is so disappointing. I have barely posted the past 2 months because of some of the vitriol I was seeing. We need to trust in our management team.

I'll admit I was kind of disappointed to lose 2 picks for Newhook and passing on Michkov, but that was my instant gratification/endorphin driven mind dominating. With a couple nights to sleep on it I can appreciate what HuGo are doing.

Our defence will be amongst the best in the league once Reinbacher, Hutson and Mailloux join Guhle, Barron, Harris, Xhekaj and even Matheson who isn't too old yet.

If anything our defence will be too crowded, which should allow us to trade for a forward to add to our already pretty good/promising and young forward core (Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Slafkovsky, Newhook, Farrel).

Trust in management is what got us rock bottom , no elite forwards and without a #1 C the last 30 years. I can't see anything changing under Molson, its an old boys club.

Right, people just like to complain. It's ok to have different opinions and not agree with all of their moves. But objectively, HuGo did pretty good work in the past year since the end of the Bergevin era:

Assets lost via tradesAssets acquired via trades
Tyler Toffoli
Ben Chiarot
Artturi Lehknonen
Brett Kulak
Alexander Romanov
Jeff Petry
Ryan Poehling
2022 MTL 3rd round Pick
2022 MTL 4th round pick
2023 MTL 2nd round pick
Kirby Dach (22 years old, 2019 1st round pick)
Alex Newhook (22 years old, 2019 1st round pick)
Justin Barron (21 years old, 2020 1st round pick)
Emil Heineman (21 years old, 2020 2nd round pick)
Filip Mesar (2022 1st round pick from CGY)
Lane Hutson (2022 2nd round pick from EDM)
Mike Matheson
Sean Monahan
Ty Smilanic (21 years old, 2020 3rd round pick)
Cedrick Guindon (2022 4th round pick)
Bogdan Konyushkov (2023 4th round pick)
Yevgeni Volokhin (2023 5th round pick from CGY)
2024 2nd round pick from COL
2024 4th round pick from CGY
2024 5th round pick from San Jose
2024 7th round pick from EDM
2025 1st round pick from CGY (one with many scenarios)

That's pretty good asset management towards the rebuild. Plus, they hired a forward thinking coach in Martin St Louis to mentor and develop the young players (vs. the dinosaur mentality coaches hired by Bergevin). It's been a breath of fresh air.

The best is yet to come with the new young core and they are not done, the construction just started a year ago.

I’ve been thinking along these lines too….with this many young Dmen, why not trade one of our promising Dmen to someone who needs this for a surplus promising forward they can let go?

Awesome day by the Habs, Edmundson got traded for a good value and no bargainbin types of signings because the management are well aware the kids needs to play.

Now they probably will trade another forward (might be Dvorak) when the UFA signatures are settled, teams will go for their plans C, D, +...

And the Leafs are doing terrible moves one after the other, cerise sur le sundae!

i would've been part of the doom and gloom club if we still have mb/mt/cj. but we finally have moved on from them and that gave me a lot of hope for this franchise. i feel it's a different culture now.

i trust the process 100%. drafting these big kids is definitely a direction i can get behind

CC locked up long term
Filled Grand Canyon void on right side D
Bringing in Newfhook who will do great in top 6 role
Monty coming to camp full of confidence after backstopping Canada to gold
Laval will be stacked with actual prospects for the first time in years
Drouin gone
No $ thrown at washed up vets

Lots to be happy about and more to look forward too and actually have a plan they’re sticking too unlike MBs Hope as a Plan

I'm positive Guhle will be our best D fairly soon and has an outside shot at being a decent #1. Which makes me feel better about Reinbacher being in all likelihood a decent #2. If Guhle can't hit that ceiling I hear 2024 draft has a lot of good D so I guess we roll the dice again depending on his upcoming season.

On the theme of Positivity… I have a feeling one of Joshua Roy or Alex Newhook will thrive at the NHL level next year. The pieces are in place to have a skill guy slot in Drouin’s place and be… better than Drouin.
