I really think Memphis could be another Zaha who went to United too early, and has become a much better player after going back to a club closer to their level. You can call a player immature for their time at United, but they were younger when they went there.

I'd take either player at Liverpool to improve their depth

He’s still really immature now. That’s the problem. I’m not sure he would be able to buy into a term first role anywhere. The kid thinks he’s Ronaldo/Drake.

Maybe? I think a lot of pro athletes are like that though. I don't think he works on every team, maybe Gini and Virgil can keep him under control, who knows. Liverpool are desperately in need of forward depth

I think he's better than the options United has currently but he's not a necessity, would probably cost a decent amouny and is enigmatic so can't really be relied on.
Wait what? I take Rashford, Martial, and Lingard over him VERY easily. He’s a better option than Alexis and.... that’s about it.

He is easily better than all 3 of those. Lingard especially couldn't even lace his boots tbh.

He's a Manc, should never wear our shirt and he can **** off. Would rather have literally anyone else.
One and half years, after which they threw him away, doesn't make him a Manc. If anything it may make him more motivated to stick it to them. Its not like they are trying to sign a guy like Scholes

Don't care. Never. When you go through one door in your career it closes others.

I'm not that militant about it in situations when United bought a guy just because they wanted to flex financially/because they could. Liverpool will obviously never get their hands on a guy like Rashford, but I would roll the dice on someone who didn't play under Ferguson, and left there disgruntled. Its 2019.

He’s more talented than those 3 although I think the raw talent between him and Martial isn’t that far apart. But I wouldn’t replace any of them for Depay.

I dont consider any of those players to be consistent. None of them have his top end though and none of them have his production either.
Given that Rashford and Martial have done it much more consistently at a much higher level than Memphis.

Martial is just as talented. And has actually cut it at the highest level.
When Depay is capable is being half the player Martial is in the CL, call me back.
Martial on Monaco CL run did more at 19 years of age than Depay in any CL run of his career.

Our clause was that we get to match the best offer or something like that. And no it’s not a no brainer. Guy has some of the best natural talent I’ve ever seen, but he’s incredibly immature and isn’t a better option than anyone we currently have. Especially considering he isn’t a RW.

Agree with all of this. BUT! He has come a long way since those LVG days.... and I can’t but help wonder that OGS free flowing style of football would be great for Depay. Either way I agree he’s gone let it go. I don’t see them matching unless it’s a top EPL club that makes a bid for Depay.

Martial has much much more to offer. He’s only getting better by the game. The kid is amazing.

Ehh I think Depay has slightly more natural talent. I think Depays free kick ability and shot from distance are better but Martial is the better dribbler and finisher. Other than that they’re pretty equal all around I’d say.

Depay is 25 years old. We can argue till we're blue in the face about his talent or compare his talent to others, but the fact remains that at 25, he's still a clown.

There's a famous story that Rooney talked about at United that summed up his time there. He came on as a sub vs Stoke, made a ridiculous backpass to the keeper and Stoke scored. After the game Van Gaal told him he's playing for the reserves that week.

Several players tried to talk to him and calm him. Just play the reserve game, keep your head down, show him you're working hard and humble.

He showed up to the reserve game in a full leather cowboy outfit, with a cowboy hat in a rolls royce.

He absolutely is a bit of a clown. I don't see that changing either...I thought he might mature but it doesn't seem to be happening. As long as he keeps performing as well as he has for the NT I don't really care though since he isn't a constant distraction there.

Not to mention it's not like Memphis is some diehard United fan, or that he even cared about the club. He went because LvG was there and they had money to throw around.

There are a couple rumours that Liverpool are interested. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm sure Klopp would want to talk to him first, and if he believes that the personality can be reined in with Wijnaldum and van Dijk as support I would be 100% behind the transfer. He would provide a strong forward option and a very dangerous set piece specialist.

Also missed this, but what? Neither of them have been 'much more consistent' and at a much higher level? I was told it was harder to be productive in L1 than any other league. Either way a quick look at their production since 16/17 (League and CL/EL):

It's not really close who has been more productive, and Memphis has been better for National teams by a fair margin also.
