I haven't been following everything that closely, but it's a bit shocking how Barca is completely broke, and then Real can just stroke out checks for things without really having shed too many of their large contracts. I mean, yeah, Ramos went, maybe they dug out of Ronaldo early enough, and sold a few other players... but they're still sitting on most of the other large ones.

Are the revenues that much better for Real? Even with stadium upgrades / changes? Is it more likely that they're just more creative with their books?

Isco, Bale and Marcelo are all free agents.

If you count net spend in the last 10 years, Real Madrid ranks 25th (25TH!) in Europe.

They did have some duds, like Hazard, but overall, they've been very disciplined for a big club every since that summer when they brought in Ronaldo and the boys.

They basically spent nothing since getting Hazard and were the one big club in the COVID-crisis to come away with positive finances (but players agreed to salary hits and they didn't buy/sign anyone).

Madrid also hasn't really spent a lot of money recently outside of Hazard. Which you can look at as a net zero after selling Ronaldo. This was the summer with Mbappe and others.

But Marcelo, Bale, Isco are all out of contracts. Modric has taken a pay cut. We've sold off Hakimi, Ramos left, Varane was sold, sold Theo Hernandez (this still hurts.) Haven't really bought many people outside of Jovic, Hazard, Vini and Rodrygo the last couple of seasons.

We've had some questionable sales in Hakimi, Hernandez and Llorente, but overall Perez has actually been doing well with money in/money out

Did I miss BuLi clubs doing it to or was asking players to lower their wages due to covid just a La Liga thing?

No idea on whether or not Pulisic will be leaving, but I would be surprised if Lukaku didn't leave.
The word is Pulisic wants to stay in London. Don’t think there is a move to Arsenal or Tottenham in the cards for him so he might stay at Chelsea. There was a dubious link to LFC but that seems extremely unlikely for several reasons.

Let's not forget Perez' last stint was the infamous Galacticos era that saw him spend like no team had ever done in the sport before and which resulted in zero CL.
