Geez, 170? Are you sure? This would be my heart rate at close to maximum speed I can maintain for less than a mile. Forget about talking.

It’s what my Fitbit is registering though I can’t vouch for it’s accuracy. The above is from this morning’s jog. Like I said, I’m not going fast, probably averaging 11.30 mins/mile

I regularly hit 170 bpm and stay in the mid 160s for the majority of time on an incline treadmill.

Finally eclipsed 605 on my deadlift again. Previous best was 615 but I was 203 at that meet. I’m currently training at 183 and has been stuck at 585 but I pulled a pretty clean 605 today. I need to get back under the bar and start squatting again soon or I won’t be ready for my December meet but every time I squat I’m nervous about re-injuring my left knee since doing a number on it last year (when I was at 200+). I like being at the lower weight though, even if my top lifts aren’t as heavy I think I’m stronger pound for pound at 33 than I’ve ever been.

I dropped from 225 to 195 so far this year. I'm problem 10 or so pounds away from having abs...

BUT now i'm fighting against serious motivation issues. I've been off the strict diet for about 2 months now. I've maintained around the same weight tho. How do I regain the motivation?

I’ve run into motivation trouble in the past. I would say don’t force it. If you’re maintaining and not back sliding you’ve reached a sustainable lifestyle, so enjoy that fact and when you are truly ready to go after the next stage you will. I fluctuate between having abs and not so much regardless of what size I am. I’ve been very lean at 200+ and not so lean at 185. Sometimes I just feel like eating wings 3 nights a week and settling for a good workout every day. Sometimes I eat like I’m on a mission and workout like I’m trying to end myself. Motivation comes in waves but I find it’s almost impossible to manufacture it. Sometimes buying a new supplement so that you “have to” use it or just getting in the gym a few days in a row can jump start you from a slump, but if you’re just not feeling it, you’re probably not going to be able to force yourself.

First pic is 200+ pounds around May 2018.

Second is 185 around April 2019. Way softer looking at 185 despite being a solid 15+ lighter on the scale.

Not at your level but I used to max out bench pressing at 245x 2 or 3 reps when I was at 175-179 lbs. For the first time since I went down to 160 lb I tried 225 and I was able to do solid 3.

Cheesy I know, but I have a reverse calendar counting down the number of days left in the year. It can work in reverse, for example you can tell yourself "I've still got 150 days left in 2019 so no rush" but then when I see that I'm down to 110 days and haven't done jack shit, that's usually enough to get me back into day 1 of training, and you know this: the first day is the hardest and everything gets easier from there.

You are a strong dude.

605 at 183 is really, really impressive.

Powerlifting is a weird sport. The central nervous system down regulates our maximal strength output. When you hear crazy stories of mothers lifting cars off their children it’s because the extenuating circumstances and adrenaline override that down regulation but what we often don’t hear is that the woman tore a muscle or ligament in the process. It’s a safety mechanism that keeps us from exerting the maximum force our muscles are capable of in order to keep us from injuring ourselves and powerlifting is as much about conditioning the CNS to heavy loads as it is strengthening the muscles. I’m not that big because I don’t train for hypertrophy as much as heavy 1RMs but as my CNS gets used to heavier and heavier lifts and trusts me to not hurt myself I can lift more and more without building much new muscle.

Brother, I am in awe. That is spectacular. An amazing lift. My 1 RM is 385. Am 48 and my goal is to raise that by 100 pounds in 1.5 years. This way at 50, I can do 3 red plates and 2 green plates and get my Xmas deadlift.

To me it is just a bunch of progressions and resets. For a long time that is.

Power is progression. Oly is much tougher for me as it involves so much mobility. which i lack. No matter how much stronger I have gotten, lifts such as the snatch are very hard for me. I also need to be better at C+J, and not rely on muscling through.

I am in the exact same boat. I’m 33, my mobility isn’t the greatest (I could actually stretch but who has time for that) and I struggle with muscling my Olympic lifts instead of good form. I think my competing days in powerlifting are over now that I’ve separated from the military. I still enjoy lifting heavy but I’m moving up to NJ with my girlfriend and I’ll probably start CrossFit with her, tone down a bit, focus on my form more and lift heavy for my own satisfaction once or twice a week.

The site doesn’t let you upload videos or I’d provide some proof, not to show off but just because, in my experience when someone says they’ve got a 600lb deadlift people are skeptical

its pretty much why most of us work out past 20 years old lol.

Plus the wings, double cheese burgers, fries, nachos, ice cream and more beer.

My diet is trash. I’m lean at 33 and my diet is absolute trash. I workout like it’s my main mission in life and every 8 hours or so I wonder how much further along I would be if I just attempted to eat well. For clarification, my breakfast, pre and post workout nutrition is pretty spot on. The 3000 calories I consume after 6pm almost every day are not :help:

You can learn to like healthy food options. I also tend to binge eat sometimes after hours but I learned to like salads and healthy grains to go with meats or fish. Not bad at all, honestly.

I’ve eaten heathy before. I’ve been really cut up and lean, but I just am far too complacent because I know I’m in shape and I can get away with eating how I like. If I feel like I’ve fallen too far off the wagon I tighten it up for a bit, but realistically, into my 30s I’ve been able to maintain abs and be fairly big for my height while still killing 3 pints of Ben and Jerry’s a week, so my incentive to clean it up just hasn’t materialized yet. And I’m pretty clean between the hours of 6am and 6pm. It’s just those evening “rewards” that kill me. And the beer. Because frankly, if my diet sucked but I wasn’t drinking I’d probably be bigger, but since alcohol inhibits recovery and testosterone, it’s not the calories so much as enjoying a few drinks 4+ nights a week.

What purpose does losing that extra however many pounds have other than self-actualization? And if you need to force yourself to be self-actualized are you actually self-actualized? Or is there some model chick you want to date that only dates 10s and you're currently a 9.5?
