Boston is already out

Was Dallas ever in the running? If so, then this makes me more worried because they are losing a RW.

I meant Dallas, not Boston. They were rumored to be a potential landing spot for NH. Not sure they'd be acquiring both Seguin and Horton. And isn't Eriksson a LW?

He would be a decent add but didnt he get suspended for hitting one of the jackets in the face with his stick off of a faceoff.

Yeah. Calvert. And it probably was accidental.

Huge trade in the works. Boston and Dallas close on a deal sending Tyler Seguin to Stars for Loui Eriksson. Other parts involved as well.

...holy hell. If that happens...

He is. One of the most underrated LWs in the league. I'd go on a killing spree to get him. I thought he was basically "all offers being declined kthx".

Everyone always says he's underrated, so that makes him fairly rated to me,.

That could be a good trade for both teams depending on what else is involved.

Columbus, oh
I have to get this off of my chest. The Bluejackets who people say are technically a "small market team" will be to the cap this year, and close to it in 11-12. Last year we knew we were rebuilding and no one rebuilds with a cap team, unless your Philly. I just see a turn for our Bluejackets, as in people no longer see us as, "Oh geez it's Columbus." We are now seen as a real team that will spend to the cap to win.

I see the next 5-6 years being the same way. We will have to resign Gaborik, and The Bob, and Atkinson will be paid if he puts up the numbers that he is supposed to. To me, as a fan since 2000, this feels really good to finally be on the map as a hockeytown and a place that top free agents actually look at. I also believe Horton signs here for one reason; You don't visit a team all day and see the area unless you want to be there, something is up, and boy does it feel good...

GO JACKETS!!

As always, The Coach provides plenty of intelligent opinions and good info for our consideration:

There are some names that I've not seen mentioned elsewhere, along with a very honest evaluation of the existing roster. Good read.

Always finding good stuff to share - thanks Pete!

But we didn't know who the CBJ was going to draft. Just like free agency is going to happen and we don't know who the CBJ will sign.

I didn't say anything against speculating, I merely said "I won't get my hopes up".

Well I can see why we did not get Seguin. We did not have enough spare parts to ship out. But that is ok. Let's see if Jarmo was able to charm Nate.

By the way, I agree it is unusual for a player to spend 50% of the days before free agency begins in just one city, as Horton did in Columbus, if he does not have a strong interest in that city.

Bruins hold his rights.

He wasn't really allowed to do more, no upcoming UFA was/is. With the exception of buyouts.

As FA begins tomorrow, today is the only other day he could have gone to visit some team. And maybe he did.

But yeah, it still indicates he does have interest.

Teams can negotiate with FAs now, they just can't make anything official until the 5th.

Per the CBA: "UFAs may meet & interview with potential new Clubs, but may not sign new SPCs until opening of RFA/UFA Signing Period" (1/2)

Nowhere does it say that teams cannot negotiate or present verbal offers to UFAs. #funtimes (2/2)

My point is that he took half of that two day period to spend in Columbus. I don't care about the how and why. He had two days. We got half his time.

Sign Horton up. Right age, adds scoring. A bit pricey, but luckily we don't have to write the checks AND we could use a compliance but out or two next season depending on performance of certain guys. That coupled with a slight increase on cap? Sign him up and see how he works with Gabby. He's also played some center...although I believe he prefers less defensive responsibility f a wing, his +/- are good. Love that he visited.
