One of the most uninformed posts I've ever read. So you think no one wanted him because of his fighting skills and not because he's one of the worst hockey players in the league. Almost every fighter loses some fights and I never said Orr hasn't. I said he's still one of the best fighters in the league. Some of those guys you listed have also lost to Orr btw.

Your comment about him spending time in the minors just baffles me as well. Are under the impression that none of the HW fighters in the AHL can beat any of the HW fighters in the NHL. If so, your dreaming.

Orr's still top 10 in the league or damn close to it so please name 10 fighters in the NHL who you think are better fighters than Orr.

If you play McDermid over THornton a game or two you'll see Shawn cut the crap and play better IMO.

It happens.The only thing that bothers me is Bruins not hammering Vanek way more,They just let him kill them.Who cares about Scott? Hit their better players way more and win the games.

Even Probert lost fights, it happens. The consequences of not tying up his right hand off the bat are magnified when you're giving up 7 inches and 40 pounds. He's capable of going up against anybody in the league but when he loses to a Boogaard, an Orr, a Scott, he's going to look completely overmatched.

This is basically it.

Thornton gives up a lot of size and usually makes up for it with technical ability. But that won't always happen.

Still a good fighter. His play, however, is inconsistent this year sometimes he is the ideal 4th liner and sometimes he looks poor in all facets of the game.

He had the right idea, go right at him, tie him up and then have a typical Shawn Thornton fight. He didn't lockout the right, and once Scott started throwing, there was nothing Shawn could do. He held on for as long as he could.

He'll be back, full of piss and vinegar and ready for a rematch. That's his job, and Shawn Thornton is the guy who does his job.

and John Scott said as much after the fight. Scott got the better of the hold than thornton did and he could throw punches.

Thornton's handled guys as big as scott before. Don't fix what aint broken.

Scott can be summed up as scarey- if you had to fight him, but as a player he would not cut it in the ECHL, actually he probably couldn't make BC High (maybe the basketball team)

Hockey fighting is something that extremely hard- you can't leg sweep or put in a choke hold like in judo (or you could but the suspension would be measured in years not games:laugh:)

I'm not sure how good a fighter Scott is since I don't have a large sample, but no matter who he fought be it vintage Stan Jonathan or Zedeno Chara you'd feel pretty good if you got him in a draft

overall though i'd rather see him on the ice and exploit him

as for Thornton- very tough job, very tough guy, great technical fighter but in the end when you are a gun fighter you eventually end up looking up at the moon; I remember the fights that Dave Schultz and Clarke Gillies go it that got their brains bashed in (Byers believe it or not was the Gillies one, when Gillies was at the end of the line with the Sabres of all teams

He lost to Tom Kostopoulos that pretty much says it all. He can't fight. He is terrible and a spot picker.

The only bone I have to pick is Thornton dropping the gloves in the first place with Scott, yes I know that's ironic considering this thread was about wanting him to fight more. I would have had Macdermid drop the gloves, no one would care if he was concussed. Now the Bruins lost a man who plays regular minutes because he fought a guy who played a total of 4 minutes tonight.
