Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

Sadly, we add new players and we revert back to last year’s style of individual/no defence play. We got work to do here! Gotta get back to blue collar, disciplined hockey that is accountable.
I didn’t think we’d play worse than last night, but we did. Looked like guys gotta figure stuff out. Bottom 6 gotta play a role…
Been saying this. Can’t keep playing the same two lines. Hockey has four lines for a reason. In the playoffs you need all four lines going because it’s a grind. How can you expect them to develop if they’re not playing. Better do that now so the bottton two lines are ready when the real game starts.

I think the new guys just need some time to learn the system. Hopefully that happens sooner than later

Disgusting from behind the bench out. Assign the rookies to their junior teams if you are going to treat them like this. There is nothing to learn from favoritism and at least they will develop with ice time if this is the case going forward.
I agree. There’s no developing, just play two lines. You can see the bottom two lines don’t have confidence right now. Seems like the coach is in it for himself, trying to prove he can have a winning team that was supposed to be rebuilding.

Hope Chucky isn't hurt. Got slammed pretty hard there.
If chucky is out for any length of time we could see our new goalie be brought up. Obviously not the same talent level but he seems to be playing good for the Cubs;

Don't mean to insult you, but I genuinely don't recall seeing many teams play worse than u guys did tonight. Was legitimately shocking to watch.

I like a lot about your squad too. Was eager to see Musty/Blonda/Villeneuve/Walton. Not sure what was up but they looked totally disinterested in playing.

They were arguing on the bench a ton too which I haven't seen much of lol. Couldn't believe your coach wasn't giving it to them/calling a timeout to get them going.

Hopefully just a 1 off and they come out firing vs LDN! Rooting for u guys to come out the east. GL rest of the way.

Worst penalty shot call I have ever seen in my life. Wolves playing with zero discipline, but these Refs are incompetent. Brutal game all around.
Can’t remember a worse officiated game. Wolves looked NOTHING like they did at home. They play like this and they’ll get destroyed in London. Also for all the praise Barney gets, he has thus far not shown any ability to teach discipline. Let’s hope the team get geared up for London otherwise man they could get embarrassed..

Noticed it early in the season 1st 5 minutes and last 5 minutes of games just running lines 1 and 2, same with D.

They should have rewarded the young players with more ice time not less.

3 games with the new players and they broke up the Walton line and moved Musty up there.

We never addressed the lack of depth scoring. Mews immediately became our top scoring dman and 2nd in scoring. Walton has 70, Mews 57, Delic 50, and Musty is 8th with 26 points in 14 games and Molnar with 13 points sits 12th

Top forwards
Walton - 70 points
Delic - 50 points
Pharand - 43 points
Villy - 37 points
Coughlan - 27 points
Musty - 26 points

I mean look at that drop off offense dies after 1st line. Walton is almost double the Pharand and Villy

London in last 5: 4-0-1 only loss coming to sarnia when they got a powerplay in overtime.

Sudbury coming off one of their worst efforts of the season going into a hard place to play against a team that has 6 regulation losses on the season.

Yeah not looking good

I think new players learning new systems is a part of it for sure but equally crippling is finding the right line combos and staying heavy/mean but disciplined. Like Coughlan and Henderson.
Further, go with what has proven to work before the trades. Walton/Delic/Pharand -Musty Villy Molnar top six. Go with the young guys who got us here for bottom 6. Henderson, Coughlan, Clayton will be the beat 3rd line in the O. Lastly, Chitaroni Dean Ziliotti (Street/Digi support).
Also, O’Dell has got to play. He hasn’t shown he doesn’t belong. Roberts needs to be worked in slowly.
No more Globetrotter sh!t. committed and strong in D zone. North/south heavy play, driving the net and keep it short and simple.
As a fan who has watched 98% of the games this far this is what they do when they are most successful.

Prior to the trade deadline coaching staff were implementing a successful play book which everyone was buying into, developing players, playing for each other and achieving more than ever expected. Since the trade deadline they have opened up last season’s playbook and we all know how that turned out,is Papineau behind this complete reversal? If so, for what reason? Any thoughts?

What we don’t want is to revert back to last season when the tail was most definitely wagging the dog. Time for the big dogs to start determining when and how the tail gets wagged.

five forwards >pt/g and a top 3 scoring D is enough offence.
