Sudbury Wolves 2022 Off-season Thread

Pretty interesting read. Seems like Duncanson blames effort levels and lack of focus for a lot of the losing. Not sure I agree with him there. Just in general, seems like a lot of negativity and pre-emptively blaming players for next season even.
Hmmm... I will have to re-read the article, that was not my first impression. To me it came across as a message to players to step up to the next level this coming season more than anything else. I will take another look with your frame of reference.

Doesn't look good to me for next season. Coach blaming players already. Signed 4 16 year olds already and now solid goaltending. Signed 16 year old over what they have and loading up on young players. Almost looks like there planning to build for couple years from now.
I think 23-24 was always the goal. This year the goal should be to get into the playoffs, and maybe win a round. OA/19-year-olds are just too weak of a group.

Sending Stillman out was the indication that the window opens next year, not this year.

I mean... sending Stillman out was an indication that he was playing like garbage and was a terrible teamate.

I agree with wiserbud on this one. I did not get that negative vibe out of the article at all. Realistically talked about inexperience and youth and is looking forward to growth and maturity in his lineup. Players and coaches do have a shared responsibility.

I also have to agree with wiserbud, that article read to me as a call to action and for the players to step up.

Oke just wanted Stillman more than the wolves. He asked, and asked; then accepted the wolves immense price.
Idk when the wolves window opens, but it won’t be near wide open over the next 2-3 seasons; the central will be loaded.

The coaches need to take some heat. Yes older players stunk, but coaching goes a long way as well. Why the wolves wouldn't go after more youthful coaches with little more modern style hockey. Riding one goalie and one line run em gun em hockey doesn't cut it anymore

What would you have done with Craig’s roster? The top players were 17. Stillman didn’t show up. Lando played way too undisciplined, took way too many penalties. Jack and Liam were great but they didn’t have much else on the backend.

Although they showed improvement after the deadline, the roster was never good enough to win.

I can agree with a lot of what was said in the article.

Not saying there aren’t other coaching options, there are hundreds of candidates that can coach at this level.

You can look at player deployment and systems being played and judge on that. They have the most amount of ranked players in the draft this year that I can remember in a long time. That showcases his player development skills to a certain degree. I’d like to see another year with him behind the bench.

Case closed? If the wolves can’t come up with two goalies, the back up providing 20-25 solid games; and one of two OA D or OA D and import D a capable top pairing, does the criteria to judge Duncanson change?

Probably building for Goyette's D+2, so the season after next. That'd be Villeneuve D0, Musty's D+1, and Goyettes D+2

You just answered your own question.

The same year Niagara & North Bay are already built for. It’s not the ideal season for the wolves to peak, but divisional games will be fierce and great to watch.

You keep saying this, maybe you should pick up season tickets for Niagara or North Bay? The wolves young core is significantly better but it seems like they peed in your cereal or something.

I feel like North Bay is more built for this coming season, Niagara is just a shit show right now so that's whatever. I like the Wolves odds of taking at least another divisional crown.

Not sure they're even built for then. They're losing Coe and Russell. There's also a chance they lose Petrov to the AHL. They also don't have much in draft pick assets given what they spent this year. Obviously if Fantilli shows, it changes the conversation but I think that's highly unlikely.

The battalion are behind Barrie & Mississauga going into this season, imo. NB only has four, really only two above replacement level ‘03 born that should be very good OAs for the 2023-24 season. The 9 rookies currently contributing to a conference final, and more 2004-05 born to come will be ready to contend.
That ‘shit show’ will finally replace its not very good coach. Niagara has 20+ 2003-05 born; most of which were picked by round 3 covering every position. I think the Icedogs have a legitimate chance of hosting the 2024 memorial cup.

Until Fantili reports, NB possesses 5-2nds, 5-3rds, *3rd, 5-4ths, 6-5ths, 7-6ths over 4 years; that is enough draft pick assets, imo.
