Rossi might have something to say about that. Could see Gaulton being the Sudbury Cubs starter this season. Unless he flat out wins the back up role over a guy like Rossi or even Morrow if he shows up for camp
Rossi did average at u18, Morrow did well in jr A but highly doubt he'll show up. McCarthy did very well in timmons but now focused on oakville. Should've had one of these guys back up last year to somewhat develop.

I also would not count Nathan Krawchuk out of the battle for the backup position. Wolves tend to do well in the U18 draft and they took him third overall.

Would be nice to have some announcements on two import signings!! What a kick to the gut to have none I’m still shaking my head at Paps for not getting this right coming into this season.

I absolutely agree about the import situation. Papineau cannot sugarcoat it , he has failed miserably in this facet of his responsibilities. To draft these players without a probable commitment is terrible. The import players are generally within the best 5 players on the roster and recent Wolves teams have suffered without that talent infusion.

The Steelheads made themselves a better team today filling one of two gaping holes on D, and adding a F which leads me to believe the other hole on D will be filled by an OA D acquisition.
The wolves are unquestionably 5th best in the central division, imo. Dario took the mic following the final game of the season assuring all that the wolves would go on a long playoff run this season.
Does Papineau do something prior to the season to make the wolves a solid bet to make it to the postseason?

Quite possible. What I hear lately is Morrow was never interested and pushing for NCAA, doubt rossi will make himself ineligible by signing a 1 or 2 year deal to be back up.

Is it a fair assertion that the Wolves go in to the season with Duncanson as the head coach.Paps and Zulich must be letting their friendship cloud their judgement.Maybe the prospective imports and their agents are not confident that they will receive the proper development under Duncanson's tutelage

Duncanson is to old school and didn't keep up with the times. It's not 1985 anymore. His style just doesn't cut it. Why paps would keep him shows paps style might just doesn't cut either. Might be time for a complete overhaul

I don’t think that is a fair assertion. Papineau’s first, first round import pick @#1 reported for the 2018-19 season. In four import drafts since, … Duncanson has so far had the opportunity to develop one pretty average OA import

That might be fair. But this old school movement has just begun with 2005-06 players such as Musty, Pharrand, Walton & Walton, and to some extent Villneuve.
To be fair, the east seems to be going big. Barrie also noticeably drafted big. This may be in response to what NB, Hamilton, and Miss were able to do and what the Petes have been building towards.
My personal thought is Papineau should have been relieved of his drafting duties immediately after selecting K.Walton. The two 2nds had to be used for G & D. The wolves lost ground in the central this off-season imo.

I think a decent line up can be made, a bit better if OAs are G and 2 D; 6-9 finish depending on additions and subtractions of all teams in the conference?

The only OA locks here are Degrazia and Ranger. Lemaire has likely been released already and there is no reason for Smith to be back to get in the way of the 16-18 year olds on the team.

Up front Simpson may be the odd man out depending on who plays well and who shows up at camp

On defense, if the imports show up there is definitely no room for Robinson as an OA. The defensive group looked much better and more structured once he went down to injury. Will be interesting to see how Bishop and Larkin have developed and what Mania can grow into

In goal, Ranger is the undisputed number one and the Wolves will need a backup this year who can actually play 15-20 full games and who can come back next year. That’s something that needs to be figured out quickly

papineau talked a big game last year with agents. he said he was hiring an nhl level coach and they were going to win back to back memoral cups. i know of a few agents that are not a fan.

walton is interesting, i think he will frustrate wolve fans, his best shift is great, but hes widely inconsistant, didnt show up most of the time. he also wouldnt play at the gthl prospects game because his brother wasnt invited. some off ice issues there but not as big of a question as his on ice play.

If there was a thumbs down option I'd give you one. You talk alot of crap.

He is not alone in talking crap about Papineau. But if he can turn a few consecutive lottery picks into back to back memorial cup championships while continuing to effectively punt defence at the draft, Papineau can tell others that his perceived arrogance is really just pure genius.
The question is; can Papineau hang onto his job if he does not get Zullich two rounds of playoff gates this season? Zullich did promise a long playoff run this season. Papineau, now into his 7th year as director of hockey operations or director and GM, has the draft capital and extra young forwards to add the top OA D and another ‘03 born or two to bolster the 2-1sts, 2nd, 3rd, 4th 2003 born already on the roster.

With that many top picks it's not difficult to pick top players. It's the finding that one or two hidden talents beyond 3rd and getting imports to commit. He hasn't drafted a goalie and I've heard a couple turned down offers that's why lemaire was still here last year. Imports and those hidden players do not believe in papineau nor the wolves. He hasn't created that environment where everyone wants to be a wolf

Yikes can’t be good moving forward then.
