Goaltending cost us 2 points today.
Absolutely comical that they don't start Krawchuk after Friday.

I question whether Bishop wants to play hockey, I've never seen someone give up on so many players so early, it felt like every other shift he had. Hopefully, Toure is not out for long.

In unrelated news, Ranger looks like he had a very good first start in the GOJHL, 34/35 for an OTL. Wolves could use a goalie like that.

Derek likes to speak about how many little chances his team gives up. That might be so but you need your goalie to make stops. Also, wolves have to many grinders and not enough finisher's. That's not a good recipe for winning constantly.

time to give Krawchuk more starts he deserves it, next week will be tough weekend. Sometime the answer right in front of you, I don't get why he hasn't got more starts he has earned it.

Oh I guess they magically appeared. Byfield, no. He was obvious #1. Musty was debatable at the time and not so obvious, everyone was high on Callum Ritchie ( also a great player). Delic I believe was a second round pick so yes I believe the scouting staff saw what we all see, an amazing player. If there was a re-draft he’d most definitely be a 1st rounder. Same with Goyette, ten teams passed on him before selected by the Wolves. Would he go 11th overall again on a re-draft? Nope! Scouts plus two. Lastly, 06 draft got is Villie and it was a deep draft with lots of options, please don’t tell me he was the wrong pick…
I’ve always found taking a positive approach is always harder than being negative…shouldn’t be that way…
Sounds like I’ll never convince you, but are Scouts do a dam fine job for the most part…
Thanks Paps mom

💯agreed!! Time to let Krawchuk have the majority of the starts and let the chips fall where they may. If it shows that he isn't capable of the job, then we have to get a goalie next year, however, he could be the answer to that question. Even if Krawchuk only plays to an average level, he’s still young and he could be used as part of a trade to get that elite goalie that will be needed for the next 2 years.

Also they have collected 4 out of 6 points the last 2 weekends, I do feel that the defence could tighten up somewhat going forward, however, I like want I’m starting to see for the most part from the team.

Go Wolves Go!

The Soo played horrible today and still got the win, two goals called back and two goal post when Brassard was clearly beat. McCullum in the shootout was very surprising. Maybe Derek is still learning the players as his dad is still behind the bench. Hope things get better as we need to make the playoff.

These two teams were evenly matched today. No Musty and Toure makes a big difference in terms of depth. Sudbury needs Musty in the line up to spread the offence down the lines. Toure was also missed today. Bishop I was hoping he could show better this time around but in the games I have seen him play he has been the cause of goals in close games. His foot speed and gap control is still not there. He should just concentrate on playing a simple safe game. It almost appears that he's over thinking.

Have to give the Soo credit they were battling hard and skating hard all game considering they travelled and played last night. I thought for sure they would lose their legs at some point deeper into the game. I don't know if it was the Wolves not skating or wanting it enough today or the Soo out skating us. Anyway you would think that the Wolves would be dominating the Soo this year but its been far from that. It just shows how much more this team needs to be considered a top team next season.

As for the Wolves offence today. They really didn't shoot the puck first enough. Too many passes and hesitation in making a shot or pass. It allowed shots to be right in the chest of the Soo net minder a lot. They need to stop being so fancy and jam the net more for rebounds. You would also think at this time of the year our PP would get better but they are still struggling.

As for Brassard today he wasn't overly busy. The first goal was from the Soo player getting by Bishop and making a play with speed and tucking it away. I was a afraid this goalie would have trouble moving side to side. As for the second goal shot right in the slot that got by him with some traffic in front. Don't blame him for that one solely. A couple others hit the post. For such a big guy sometimes he shows small. And leaves the top corners open as in the overtime shoot out winner. I wouldn't go as far as saying he lost the game vs North Bay and Soo in OT. I think our forwards need to learn to finish their chances and take the pressure off our defence and goalies. Too many good chances are not going in. Missing the net, too many passes in close, not getting to the rebounds or jamming the net. We have to capitalize when it comes down to it.

4 out 6 points is what I thought we would get anyway this mini homestead. I thought the only game we would of lost was vs North Bay but we managed to take 1 point there and 1 point today. Beating Flint on Friday. So overall not a bad weekend. Hope to have Musty and Toure back next weekend so that this team can start scoring again.

Well that summed it up! Score on our chances!!! Out shot, grade A scoring chances and we don't capitalize because we are being too fancy!!! Even Goyette penalty shot he actually had the goalie beat then went back to making another move when there was no reason to. We beat ourselves today.

Not wrongs picks, rather obvious picks. There were a few that had Delic & Wakely inside of the top 10 for the OHL draft. Every year a few prospects ranked for the first round fall to 20-30 because teams draft others that are a better fit. If the wolves used some early picks for team needs, the D and team overall would be better now imo.
Ok Dirty, let’s start with baby steps: Name 5 positive things about the Sudbury Wolves?

Some excellent young forwards with one or more years of eligibility, plenty of picks, [menacing stuffed wolf on a cable facing opposition bench after a goal (#1)], … that’s a tough question, I need more time to come up with a couple of others.
Edit: the wolves’ logo, the Foligno family’s history with the wolves

Love it!! Great job!! Everyone has the right to have their own opinion and Even though I don’t agree with everything you write, I respect it.

Watching the game again and on the Soo’s second goal I don’t think I’ve ever seen a goalie essentially tuck his head into his shoulders like a turtle. I watched it over and over. I can’t get over it and it doesn’t bode well for the Wolves. Hate to say I told you so but it looked apparent to me that Brassard was not going to be a significant upgrade on Ranger. There’s no way the Wolves should’ve left a point on the table.I can’t believe Krawchuck doesn’t play Wednesday. Again, they need to shoot more but they need to hit the net more and stop shooting right at the goalie’s crest. Frustrating game. Slow, sleepy Sunday game.

If Wolves make playoffs. I believe goaltending will be the biggest problem. Brassard just is not good enough.
Goaltending has been the biggest problem all season. Finished watching the shootout again. The winning Soo goal was like taking candy from a baby. This is looking to be a major catastrophe of a decision by Papineau.

Clearly some of you like to complain the Wolves have one of the top offence in the league and outshot the Soo 42-22. Next game Wednesday let’s hope we can get a solid game between the pipes. Tonight Ivanov was way better than Brassard. It was the only reason for the loss.

Seems Paps tried to better the teams chances of securing a playoff spot while giving up as little as possible. This strategy could seal his fate. Would be interesting to see if the assistant GM was on the same page. Ranger should never have been let go for an unproven tender. A GM rolling the dice with such an important position at stake leaves a big decision going forward.

Although I really like Joe's character, he was not cutting it. Its early, but give Brassard some slack. If we look at the limited stats, he has 3.27 GAA, and .881 save %. Joe had a 3.91 GAA and .877 save %.

Its early for Brassard with a new team in front of him, new defensive systems, new city, yada yada yada.

Not saying he is Sebastian Dahm, but 'to date' his numbers are at least as good as Joe's.

I will give him a little more time.

Don’t worry folks we have OA Mat Onuska with a 4.14, 870 in Windsor.

Why that was not resolved at trade deadline is baffling.

Concerning the direction of this team perhaps DM and KM will speak with Dario and give him their thoughts on the roster R.P etc . Then Dario can make his decision along with B J. If there are changes it will take effect after the draft as the draft takes place after the 1st round of playoffs. One thing is for certain if anyone goes it will be R.P. neither of the other two.

I think the roster up front is actually quite good moving forward, and really good if we get Dvorsky and or Hage to commit. But it looks like Hage is going to Michigan next year.

We are lacking depth on D. You want two strong 19 year olds and a solid OA to make a run at it. Looking forward to next year if we can add a strong 19 year old while having Toure(OA) Collins (19), Mania(18), Chromiak(18 late birthday), Walton(17), Bishop (18). We still need more depth. I haven't seen Walton and Bishop doesn't look ready but will hopefully improve with more time in the league.

We also need a proven Goaltender.

I think we can make a run next season if we can focus on adding elite players on D and in net. The forward group should be excellent next year. Time for a run with this group.
